Hey Guys

I am totally in love with the ego-kit. This is because I like motocrossing, but don't like the idea of driving 4 hours + with my car to motocross 3h and then go back.
This is not environment-friendly and also a bit stupid and boring.

So I figured out it needed to be an electric bike which I could drive in the woods around my homeplace, so I test-rode one last year (Haibike fully suspended e-bike, Bosch-System).
The problem was, that the reaction of the system was to slow: It needed 1/4 rotation of the crank until the motor kicked in, which is too slow for technical passages or to pop wheelies (it just doesn't feel natural anymore). There is also no real manual throttle mode on it.

During my research I then stumbled upon the ego-kit, which looks really cool.
However, I think it's too expensive (and it's also too expensive for me;), so I woul'd like to build something similar by myself.

I Have access to a CNC-MIll and a rather well equipped workshop (but sadly no lathe).

The only part I cant manufacture is the freewheel-crank. So I am looking if anyone knows a source for a freewheel-power-crank which is suitable for heavy riding offroad.

Hi,

i ride an 160-170mm Votec VSX with a Bafang BBS02. That is the best solution for me, silent throttle Mode, enough power for trail riding. The BBS is good for 1000-1200W, I use it on 1000W, what is the maximum I would recomend for a bicycle drivedrain.

If you want real Power get a Lightning Rod Kit.

Best regards from Munich

Hi --freeride-- and thank you

Well, it's less about "real power" but more about function and satisfaction.
As far as I can see, there is no way to substitute a broken gearing on the Bafang Kit, and on a bike for heavy offroad use I'd expect to be forced to change the bearing every 2 or 3 years...

the cyclone kit is the cheap version of the ego

My friend had the 1680 kit but it would hit thermal cut out easily

http://www.cyclone-tw.com/order-3chain.htm -Im thinking of getting this one but need to do more research.

then cheap lipos from hobbyking etc..

There's also the AFT kid made in Australia which is made really well also. I have 2 Bafang 750 kits & the Aft 1680w mounted to a Nicolai DH bike. The Bafang kits are great for regular single track in public parks etc. when you need to be discreet with other hikers & bicyclers, there's hardly any noise and you don't really notice it mounted on the bike. The Aft on the other hand is an all out Runner, noise e & fast, it will climb steps, clear doubles & handle large drops. I was gonna go for the Ego kit at one time but then I discovered these forums & I learned there were other alternatives much less expensive & some even faster but all equally effective.
