Hi:
I was hoping you could help me. I have a 1997 Solectria Force that I've owned for five years. Shortly after buying it, I upgraded to 55 LiFePO4 cells (100 AH each) and a new Elcon charger.
It has worked great all these years until a few weeks ago. Elcon had me send in the charger and they said it was bad and couldn't be repaired, so I shelled out $700 for a new one. Note that the battery pack is operating fine as my wife drove it to work a few more times even after the charger was removed and sent in.
The new charger got here yesterday, yet it's doing the same thing as before. Alternating green and red lights on the charger indicating it doesn't "see the battery pack." As a last ditch attempt, I removed the Anderson connector between the charger and pack in case there was a bad connection.
I temporarily twisted the wires together to eliminate any possibility of a faulty connection. However, the same issue continues. Even with the batteries being a little low, I'm still showing 175 volts coming from the pack. I cannot think of any reason the Elcon charger keeps doing the same thing and failing to charge.
I'm at my wit's end and would appreciate any advice. We LOVE driving "Sparky" and she's saved us literally thousands of dollars in gas. I really hope to hear from you as I don't know what else to try. I did check the internal fuse and it's okay.
Thanks,
Rick
