Lol, anything about e-bikes is Ontopic imo.
You all know that it’s impossible to talk about hubs without talking about batteries, then the controller, and then the speed and torque…thus the laws, idiots and police. Besides, I’m a specialist at derailing threads so don’t worry about that. Your posts were very interesting.
Geebee,
Give them the desert, they will run out of sand. -
Just continue to ignore the laws regarding e-bikes in Australia, cause they don’t make any sense at all. Anyway you have notice the non-involvement of police too just like I did. They know it’s all bs. They don’t want to deal with it. Now, I’m sure when more ppl will use e-bikes, or when teens smash head first in a wall, than they will find new ways to distribute road violation tickets to users and take our money. Until then, free for all, and let’s enjoy the e-void.
Math,
Yep I was lucky enough to get me an Oryx, since they don’t exist anymore. I bought it second hand for 1100$. That made this project feasible. Otherwise new freerides go for 2000$ and up.
Check out those adds site man, great deals.

I strongly recommend full suspension btw. It’s not so much about comfort, as it is about keeping the rubber down on the road.
Lowell,
Yes, why pedal when you’re sitting on a horse, really.
My 20 years working with steel, aluminum and stainless came in handy for the design, but anybody can do the same if not better. Btw, feel free to ask qs about metals-alloy fabrication. I know fack-all about electrics and electronics, but fabrication is my cup of tea.
Just be warned Lowell, the no-pedaling design, changes the seat configuration. A bicycle seat is designed considering that the rider’s weight will be on the pedals most of the time. So,
If you don’t pedal anymore, your weight will be on the seat. And that my friend is a nightmare for the rider. Your ass will spread apart. I’m serious. You cannot use a bicycle seat anymore therefore; you cannot use the seat pole in the frame. So expect more work than expected. You can see my solution to that problem over at Electra Choppers, or I can post here if you wish. There is always the extra large seat option, but that did not jive with my style
