Electric Mountainboard motor size question

I am getting ready to build my first electric mountainboard. I just bought an MBS Atom 95X and am trying to size the motor for it. It seems that the Hobbywing EZRUN 150A-PRO is a popular choice for e-skateboards but I see it can only handle a max of 6S for the voltage. In reading other e-mountainboards being built on this forum it seems that most people are using 63mm motors such as the Turnigy Aerodrive SK3 - 6364-245kv which can handle a max of 10s for the voltage.

(1.) My first question is how much performance do you think I will lose if I try and run the 10s motor on the Hobbywing ESC?

(2.) My second question is what about using a single 50mm motor for the board? This way the motor only requires 6s for voltage. I am about 140lbs, but I live in southern Indiana which is hilly.

Any thoughts on this?

You shouldn't run 10S on a 6S rated HK ESC. You'll most likely fry it and end up wasting your money. You need a more powerful ESC capable of 10S-12S to use 10S. However, 10S is pretty ridiculous. I started off with a dual 63mm on 10S and have since downsized to dual 50mm on 6S (occasionally pop in an 8s for much more fun). I use a single 120amp 8S ESC.

With a decent kit and/or momentum a single 50mm should propel you no problem. An added dual motor would just help you put less stress on your motors and would provide for a little bit better ride. I say, if you have the money get it.. If you don't it's not truly needed to have fun (nice to have).

Good luck! It's a blast.

Your 1st question:
I don't think you'll loose any performance running 6s to the Turnigy motor thru that esc, In fact that's what everybody does. Most of the time the motors are rated higher than the esc's. I run one of my long boards with 1s more than the small 46mm motors are rated for w/o any problems at all.
For your 2nd:
If your gonna use your mountain board off road I think 50mm motors are out of the question. 63mm is the way to go, Dual if possible, trust me with this. I have used all the sizes & found the Turnigy 50mm to get the hottest, like REALLY HOT even on regular level pavement, I weigh 185lbs.
Go with the 63's & a good quality esc's like the Castle creations "Mamba" line which I am a big proponent of. Remember, 8s on a mountain board is REALLY FAST, Im sure 6s will work just fine & be quick, 12s just isn't necessary.

Actually, the hobbywing 150A ESC has 36V caps, even if it's rated to 6s only, ... I Wonder if it really can't handle more than 6s ?

I have Bruno's duel 42mm motors do you think they will hold up to 6s stuntman? I believe they are only rated to 5s but I would like the extra power in 6s

I really don't know for sure but I suppose they would. I'm using cheap Turnigy motors w/o any problems thus far. I think I built this one about 3-4 months ago & I ride it the most of all my boards. I'm sure Bruno's motors are much higher quality so they should hold up.
