Hi, I really haven't posted many things, but what I'm posting now is just a problem I've been having with freewheels. I'm too cheap to spent 60 or 70 on a very durable one, but even expensive ones can fail from high torque. so I keep fixing the 10 dollar one I already have. The first problem I encoutered with it was when I pedaled about 12 miled on my ebike, so the crank freewheel was always engaged. The pawls or whatever their called kind of shifted and started to push their way out of the socket that they pivot in. But, the rest of the freewheel is quite strong. The inner part that threads onto a hub isn't as hard as the pawls, so they dug into the inner part . Almost like you were hammering at steel. It deforms it. This deformation of the part forces the spring up to a position where it doesn't engage the pawl into the groove. So, to fix this I opened the freewheel and dremeled the deformed area so that the spring could seat properly. Opening is easy. Just get a center punch and hammer at the threaded cover clockwise while in a vise. The balls aren't too cumbersome. Just loosen it over a bowl. The balls are easily stuck back by putting heavy greese around where they seat and sticking them one by one all the way around. Anyways I found heavier pawls from an old 3 speed hub I took apart, and strangely enough, they fit. We'll see how long this fix lasts.
