two quick thoughts has any one heard of these solar panels not made from silicon that only cost .03 a watt to make verses .30 cents to make they are supposted to be being shipped to wholsalers now but i cant find them if this is true a 200 watt panel that costs 1000 retail should go for 100 a couple of those and you could charge at home.
second point how about a electric plug on a coin operated meter like a parking meter put them in parks or maby gas stations or anywere they put a bike parking area maby charge double the electric rate so the owner has incentive to put it in think of it as a electricity vending machine.

I've seen that on an ev commercial, and that's why I said pay with coins earlier. Just pay a little more at the parking meter.

what about public parks at pavillons ment for public use plus your taxes pay the electric bill

hey its a public place ive paid for it and ive seen people plug a electric grill in to it before and i know that uses more power than my charger!

Very true, I guess it's the same as offering tax incentives, or even stoplights...

Not so many places to plug in around here, but ice machines and coke machines usually mean a plug. Problem is, even a half hour of charge only gets you a few thousand feet further down the road. Once you have a battery that can take a full charge in 15 minuites, different story. Still only taking a nickel though for an e bike, so just go inside and put a few pennies in the tray by the register.

Dunno if anyone posted this bit of news anywhere on ES, but I think it sounds terrific. I've noticed that it's often older buildings that have outlets, and newer buildings (in my town) not so much... One mention from the Globe & Mail newspaper recently:

"So what is Canada doing to get ready for the arrival of the electric car?
Well, not a lot. But Mr. Chandler's association was able to persuade the City of Vancouver to recently change its building codes and bylaws to bring more plug-ins to residential parking spaces and ensure future buildings are equipped to handle a world with electric cars.
The city recently approved new green building bylaws that require new homes and apartment buildings to include infrastructure for electric car plug-ins. Calgary is doing the same thing."

energizer makes a 15min charger for their aa batterys so it is possable to charge a nimh in 15 min and i have a nimh battery for my rc airplane and have charged it at a 4c rate and get a full charg in 20 min but im sure it wont last as long doing this but i have gotten about 50 charges on it and it still seems to be giving me about the same flight times

True, there are batteries out there now that can charge fast, but nicely priced Ping Lifepo4 is not one of em. I can go 5 amps according to the specs. My 4 amp charger will get me about 3 miles per hour of charge time, but I never leave my ebike anywhere for long. At home or work, I have my eye on it, and I like to shop at dawn when thieves are drunk passed out. The lifebatts are supposed to charge super fast, so those would be great for a long tour, charging an hour and riding an hour, infinitely. Around here though, you'd need to carry enough to go 70 miles between towns, but a ride up highway 1 might be cool when I visit LA.
