First post here, so I apologize if this topic has already been addressed.

I must admit I am not advanced in the e-vehicles world, but I have been loving my Currie ezip trailz e-bike with the stock [lead-based] 24V battery this year. I use it to commute 10 hilly miles round-trip each day to work. I pedal along the whole time but i have noticed lately that my battery is starting to lose juice faster now to the point that on my last couple miles of the day i have had to peddle the 70lbs+ bike up hills with no battery assist (not the funniest).

Now, I also have a few RYOBI 40V Lithium-ion High Capacity batteries for my lawn mower/trimmer/leaf blower. I would love to be able to power my ezip trailz with the 40v Ryobi battery which charges faster and is a lot lighter - is this possible?

All help is appreciated. Thanks you!

If your eZip was produced after 2008 you will most likely need to get a new controller that can be overvolted to your desired 40 volts. I have a 2013 model that is using a 36 volt controller, I have run it on 48 volts too using Lipo batteries. The stock 24 volt controller could not be overvolted to 36 volts. You will need a new throttle too if you want to have "accurate" battery reading from the LED lights.

I dunno about your bike specifically, but it's probable you'd need to do some upgrades to it to use a battery voltage that high.

I recommend reading around in hte various Ezip, Trailz, and Currie bike threads that a little searching will find, and see what others have had to do to use higher-than-original-voltage batteries.

if i had those parts, i'd try the LOW setting on this controller (black wires connected)
