"Drayson Racing Technologies and the Lola Cars group have just revealed what is intended to be the fastest electric-powered racing car in the world. The Lola-Drayson B12/69EV features Drayson's brand new 4X2-640 electric drivetrain, inductive charging, composite battery power, moveable aerodynamics and electrical regenerative damping. Its four electric motors are said to deliver a whopping 850 horsepower and a top speed of around 200 mph."

Meh.

The pay dirt in EVs is not just getting folks off petroleum, but getting them off squandering gigajoules of energy to get around. Using electricity to do what stinking gas cars do is missing the point. In the same way that cancer cars are often limited by a restrictor plate, for instance, just give all the competitors in an EV racing class the same kind of battery pack before the race. How they use it is up to them, and the best use of available energy takes the event.

Meh,
Nothing like F1/high level racing for development in weight n efficiency in engines, chassis, steering, tyre tech :)
Nothing like speed n endurance competitions to push the envelope...
Nothing like innovation an squillions of $$$ being spent to make beutiful fast things :) :) :)

Ya got yer grumpy pants on Chalo? (apologies for the familiarity if it offends)

I agree, racing leads to development of technology that improves things in most cases. If it improves the public opinion of EV's it's all good.

Odd things do happen though. NASCAR just this year adopted computer controller fuel injection. I was dumbfounded to hear they'd been still using carburators all this time. I jumped for joy when the last carburator rolled off my property.
