FDNY Lithium-ion Battery Fire Safety Tips

On this theme I have on order an Aniioki AQ177 ebike with an advertised 48v 60Ahr battery. Given the damage to my home such an unit could cause if it ever erupted, has led me to consider lining a 30"x12"x12" steel tool box with two thickneses of 5/8 Gypsum board cemented in place with gypsum fire rated plaster. I would then store and charge the battery inside the box.

I'm probably not the first person to try and address this issue and I'v seen the so called fire and explosion safe bags on Amazon. They don't strike me as able to contain a runaway 60 amp hour pack.

Before I head too far down this road if anyone with experience would point out what I'm not seeing, I'd be thankful.

People have tested the fiberglass bags and found them worthless. I do occasionally stick damaged single cells in them when atomizing a pack, but they are useless for full packs undergoing thermal runaway .

I use military surplus ammo cans as charging safes myself, like this:

I use a bigger one, though:

With the waterproof seal ripped out so fumes don't build up into making it explode.
