I'm toying with the idea of making a small light electric bike/motorcycle for racing on gokart sized tracks. It will have no pedals, and will be equipped with soft motorcycle racing tires for as high corner speeds as possible.

I've mostly been looking at double walled 20" (406mm) BMX rims. However, I also have found these Skyway wheels, which are made of a glass(or graphite) fibre/nylon composite. The upside of these are that they could be used without a tube in the tires, and you don't have to worry about spokes. Downside is I don't know how well they will handle the heat generated by tires and brake disc, and I'm not sure about how much they will flex compared to rimmed wheels. Do you think I could use Skyways?

i remember those from when i was a kid

at that point there was no disk braking systems on bikes and we used the rims for freestyle bmx riding
the rims would warp if you hit them hard enuff but you could pull the warp out of the rim in the freezer (not sure if these are the same rims they had 20-30 years ago)
they would hold up to the heat made by using a conventional rubber pad braking system nicley
they didn't warp on hot days
i don't know give it a try see how it goes

oh btw i don't think you would save any weight by using the composite rims as i found they were a little lighter then steel rims but i don't think they could touch aluminium

as far as not running a tube in the tire i am not sure if i know anyone that has tyred that on the rims i remember from my youth
