So I've started drawing up a parts list for my first e-mountainboard. Done plenty of online research but would appreciate some of your expert eyes to look over my plans. I plan on designing and building all the mechanical items (motor mount, housing etc) myself so I'm looking for some advice on the electrical components.

I plan on starting off with a 6S single motor setup as I'm on a budget. I would also like to have a board that was upgradable to a dual motor setup with just the addition of a motor and esc in the future. I'll probably use it mainly off road but that remains to be seen. Anyway any advice you guys would have would be really great, my intial setup is below :D

Hi

The ESC is not suitable. It can only control a 3S voltage
Battery: 2-3 cells Lipo (5-9 cells NI-xx)

Personally I'm a fan of the Alien stuff, especially that setup. That same ESC and motor have done me proud over 18 months of abuse on a mountainboard, including bad wiring shorting out, dust and dirt, no anti-spark switch and running around in 25+ degree C heat.

Lots of people will slate Alien stuff as well. Their quality control is a bit off, for sure, but if you get a good one, it should hold solid.

6S will power you around nicely. It might not get you doing wheelies and drifting, but it'll make you hold on and smile :)

Single motor is OK, I find it struggles in long grass and loose dirt/mud though.

What board are you looking to convert?

I'm probably going for the MBS Colt 90 but not sure yet. Still doing the shopping list. I'll probably be using it in a mix of off road and on road, so not 100% on board/wheel combo just yet. The roads are pretty ropey around where I live so the larger mountainboard wheels are a must.

I'm definitely planning on upgrading to dual motor in the future, but I'll get the hand of the single 6s first.

By the way, I love the look of the Onda you built
