Hi all,

So what has anyone done for mounting batteries on the handlebars or front forks?

I'm trying to figure out what options I have for a ping 48v 15Ah running a rear wheel direct drive that don't involve a panier and making it tail heavy.

I know that putting it in the triangle frame is usually the preferred way to go, but that tends to exclude the use of full suspension bikes.

Is it even possible to have a large battery, balanced bike and full suspension given these limitations? Seems like you can choose two out of three here.

I've seen pictures with Pelican boxes clamped to dual crown forks, but those tend to be extremely expensive and really only an option on gravity bikes.

I've seen other builds where the boxes were attached to the handlebars with some kind of clamping system, I think I might want to do this.

I've seen some where a front rack is used as well, but aren't good at carrying loads without breakage / vibrations. (weaker alloy forks etc...)

So what do you think, are there any good 'basket' type solutions and what are their drawbacks?

I use a pelican case attached to the front fork(s): http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=37207&start=135#p669215, and two pages later http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=37207&start=165

Yes it's a downhill frame and way way overbuilt wheels - but the bike is used as a commuter vehicle. The battery box weighs about 30lbs, but the bike handles just fine (feels like a motorcycle, not a bicycle).

The folding bike you see in my signature uses a handlebar mounted back pack to increase utility. It's light weight bike. With 10-12lbs in the back pack, it handles differently than without to be sure - but it's easy to get used to and is comfortable & predictable.

Was thinking of this for a folding tern or vello 20", maybe dual removable fork batteries. Brompton uses a backpack for their 6-7 lb battery on a front rack and it's terrible weight distribution, fork seems like it would be better, but maybe you would need to upgrade to truss fork?

Check out ES forum member MadRhino's bike. He often mounts a battery on the front. He pushes his bikes to the limits.
