Generic 36V controller with hoverboard motor – how to match hall and phase wires?

I’m trying to use a 350W hoverboard hub motor with a generic 36V 350W e-bike controller.

Since the connectors didn’t match, I stripped and connected the wires manually (temporary setup).

Connections:
- Battery: red to red, black to black
- Hall sensors: connected based on matching colors (assumed)

When I connect the battery, I get a spark, and the motor doesn’t spin properly.

I stopped testing to avoid damaging anything.

Questions:
- Is the spark normal for these controllers?
- What is the correct way to match phase wires and hall sensors?

They always spark a little when you plug in the battery.

I think my controller might be designed for two motors, since I have two identical 5-wire connectors that look like hall sensor inputs.

Also, I can’t find any proper connector for my throttle. My throttle has 3 wires (red, black, green), but I don’t see any matching 3-wire input on the controller.

Am I missing something, or does this controller require a different type of input (like a display or dual motor setup)?

The controller you linked is YSF Z1. There appears to be several variants with different wiring, but from that AliExpress listing (which has horrible pics) the closest seems to be this S06653a4ff51b4c678638a180304cba7cW.jpg
Can you confirm your controller has same wires? The. The signal line would go to a combined display throttle device or a display with a splitter for a throttle. You can look up that controller model YSF-Z1 and see the kits and how the components are normally connected

Yes, I think it’s the same controller.

Since the connectors didn’t match, I stripped the wires and connected them directly as a temporary setup. I did this for the battery and also for the motor hall wires.

The motor phase wires didn’t give me any issues, and the hall sensors are connected, but now I’m stuck with the throttle.

My throttle has 3 wires, and I can’t find where to connect it on this controller.

I’ll add pictures of the controller and the throttle in case that helps.

Oh, I saw that some parts are missing from my controller kit, but thank you all very much anyway

My throttle has 3 wires, and I can’t find where to connect it on this controller.
This controller is often sold in a bundle with a dashboard, throttle, brake lever, front and tail light.
The throttle is connected to the dashboard, not to the controller directly. The throttle/ brake signal is sent from the dashboard to the controller by UART. That's a usual setup for stand up scooters 🛴

"Signal line" is the connector for the dashboard.

Brake, Frontlight and Throttle are connected to the dashboard:

Look at both and see if one isn't black/red/yellow/blue/green
Probably Halls on the left here:

Throttle should be same color wires on the other one, with the other 2 being signal/switch.
