Just got this done last night and went out for a standard late night ebike ride after finishing the build 5 hours later than anticipated :D

2012 Large Giant Trance X3
Crystalyte H3540 w/ sks bearing drilled three 3/4 inch holes in side cover to aid cooling and moisture removal.
48v 45 amp with three speed switch
48 volt 15 ah Ping

bridgetrance.jpgJust got this done.

I set the CA to 35 amps max which seems like a really safe zone for the ping pack while not making the bike feel unsporty.

It goes 35 mph off the charger and then holds 33mph. Motor gets warm after WOT for 15 minutes but is very much in the safe zone even with a few 1,000 foot climbs into town.

I hope next years trance models have the straight top tube because it made this conversion so smooth. The battery touches the rear linkage but to combat this I reinforced the battery with a l shaped peice of thick abs which is very slippery on the aluminum.

When I ordered the frame I assumed the ping pack would need to go in the wider direction but to my surprise it fit in like this which makes peddling much nicer.

A medium trance would not have worked unless the battery was oriented in wider direction.

Nice bike same as mine but i'm using a 48v 10amp would of liked a bigger battery though and using a Ezee 400watts geared motor, down the track going to use 4 8000mah zippy lipos to get 44.4 16amp .

Ossielocal: Thanks! your bike looks more stealthy.

How did you do your torque arms on your trance? Or do you even need any with the ezee motor?

Gday mikebikerad, yeah they are a very nice bike ..I just used one torque arm on mine and it was one of these http://glowwormbicycles.com.au/store/glow-worm-bicycles-recommends/torque-arm-electric-hub-motors ..The ezee motor wouldn't be as torquey as yours .

I really like the trance bike builds both you guys have done. They look stealthy and light. My DH comp is great but its heavy, I use my dh comp for commuting only and I find with the weight and DD hub motor it is hard to pedal freely like a normal bike. My next build will probably be a trance with a geared
hub motor. I dont commute over 40kph generally and I wont my next build to feel like a normal bike. I thinking of going geared as they have a freewheel and they are light + going over 40kph on a mountain bike becomes less stealthy.

Whats the wieght of your trance build?

I didn't weigh it but I think around 53-57 pounds. (16.5 lb battery +~16 pound motor plus battery)

The gentlemen I built this for is riding it alot for excersise and I believe it is working well. With the three speed switch you are able to put it down in the low mode and get some great exercise while still moving quick. He made it 19 miles in hilly trails with just 6 ah!

I have a DH comp as well and I had to pedal it a few miles with phase wires melted together, it was like pulling a thousand pound trailer :D

Here is a pic of handlebars. It was a 7 speed cluster and the bike came with sram double thumb shifters which is great because they work so well with twist grip throttle.

Cool, always interesting to see how people get lower gear count rear clusters working on modern bikes. Throttle + gears on the right can be frustrating but you fitted both nicely.

heres my x4, right now its only on 12s lipo 12amp hour
