Company profiles for these two companies are almost the same:

http://www.conhismotor.com/About.asp?id=4
Conhis Motor Technology Co Ltd is a foreign invested company, located in Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province, China, it is only about 150Km northwest to Shanghai. ... et cetera

Golden Motor is selling only from their own web site and warns customers to buy "copy products" from E-bay.
Conhis Motor sells E-bike kits similar to Golden Motors products from E-bay.

Is it the same company selling similar products through different sales channels ?
Anyone know about this ?

Greetings,

Have to say, I didn't know about this but am not surprised.

I won't even look into it because your right the profiles are far too close for accident, I would assume they are one and the same.

Hi folks, new to this forum though I've been lurking for a while. =)

Quick summary: Conhismotor actually seems to be pretty cool, no matter what their origins are. I'm having a positive experience with them. Read below for details:

For shits and giggles I decided to roll the dice and order from Conhis, via ebay. I noticed the incredible similarity of their websites, that their product seemed identical to Golden Motor, etc. I even asked them about it and was met with firm denials.

I don't have my kit up and running yet, as I'm still working on some specifics, but here's the skinny so far.

The site itself is clearly modeled on GM's site. This much is clear. Interestingly, they only list ebike-related products. The menus that show other kinds of products on the GM site lead to empty pages on the Conhis site.

After some initial problems with email communication with the ebay seller's account, I talked to the contact listings on the website. This actually yielded *good* customer support. They're very responsive and helpful! I questioned them about the similarities to GM, and was met with firm denial. I was more interested in the product they'd actually send me, so I forged ahead.

Once I spoke with them directly, shipment was prompt and effective. They were very responsive with information about the tracking and such, I was impressed as it exceeded the expectations I had for them. While their responsiveness and support are good, they actually seemed to lack a bit of e-bike knowledge. I've had to explain to them a number of issues related to kit installation, and pointed out things which I disliked about their kit and things that I liked about it. I pointed them to this forum -- and in fact they are probably reading this.

When I received the kit, all looked fine except the chargers. Both had received significant damage -- the damage on both seems to have been from someone trying to pry them open. The Conhis rep suggested that it might've been customs -- based on the damage I'm actually inclined to say it's plausible. I don't know who opened them so ham-fistedly, but customs would be a clear culprit in this regard. When I complained about the charger, they promptly shipped a new one.

I have not tested performance of the kit yet -- I'm still doing my custom build of it. I can tell you what I can see from the parts though.

The motor appears different from what is shown on the site. It does not have the coloring that the GM or Conhis site shows. The stamping on the motor though shows what's clearly a GM product number. I am VERY inclined to believe that this motor comes from the same factory as GM. Conhis rep suggests that they develop their own. I do not believe this -- it is either a motor from GM, a motor from the same factory, or a bizarre clone that even copies the product number. The controller also appears to be the same as GM's older regen controller. The spokes are thick gauge, and seem adequate. The wheel is noticeably out of true, and will need to be trued. The spokes make me nervous, however, as they were laced at some very sharp angles that lead to bending as they hit the nipples.

What's interesting, though, is that the kit ships with parts that are slightly different from Golden Motor's kits. The battery gauge is different, as is the throttle (which is branded "Longma"). The cutoff brake levers are identical to what is on GM's site (and are what I consider to be the shoddiest part of the kit -- these levers are terrible).

The battery they shipped me is wired differently from the batteries that appear on GM's site.GM's site shows a circular charging port, where as this battery ships with a typical IEC connector for charging. (Interestingly, the charging port is wired with its pins opposite the discharge port -- go figure).

Once I get the kit running I'll let you know how it goes. I'm doing all sorts of neat customizations to my bike, which is already odd as it is, so it's taken a little longer than it should. (I have had to fabricate my own washers, etc., and I built my own torque arms).

So here's my opinion so far:

The motor is definitely born from the same seed as Golden Motor. It is either a GM motor, a motor built in the same factory, or an identically labeled clone. I'm inclined to believe that it is one of the first two.

However, the kit seems okay, if a bit spartan. If the motor works and checks out, and if the battery performs as expected, I will actually safely say that I am very happy with Conhis. The ownership of the sites are different even though the Conhis site is a clear copy of GM's. If it's GM, they went out of their way to register and host everything from someplace else. If they were doing that much to hide their identity, you'd think they wouldn't use the same menu scheme, etc.

So I'm still not sure who or what Conhismotor is. My best guess is that it's NOT GM, per se, but that they are getting their gear from the same place.

That said, they've actually been very nice to interact with (not counting the initial account I talked to based on their ebay acct). I can actually say that it's been a pleasure dealing with them. Once I can fully test the kit, and if it tests out, they'll get a thumbs up from me despite the dubious pedigree of their motors. And really, that's all I want. An acceptable product with good communication from the company.

I will post more updates as I make progress.

Hi I’m an owner of two GM hubs.

Looking at the product pics on this site it was like history repeating it self.

The pics look just like GM and the controllers are the same..

Look on the bright side, the GM gearless motors, if they are sound, are awesome.

The rear tends to be off centre with a 5 cassette sprocket. A three case sprocket and extra spacer or washers fixes this.

You report great customer service with Conhis compared to reports made by Golden customers but I never had to deal with golden as I bought mine from a dealer in AU and http://www.evpower.com.au EV Power Australia were and are still very good..

Golden Forum members made up for most things lacking when it came to support.

Those 25ah lifepo4s look like a steal. Anyone wanting to risk a lifepo4 from there please do give us some details.

Interestingly, the motor I received does NOT look like the motors on the site. There is not a speck of black on it. The product ID stamped on it though is definitely a GM product ID.

have anyone noticed all the suppliers of these kits show the same pictures and in one case, the grey tiled floor (in most pictures) has been blacked out but the artist has done it badly.-this is on the city-e cycle page on e-bay.

makes you wonder what goes on out there, i was about to order from conhismotor a 48v 1000w kit and am a bit concerned whose motor i will end up with, possibly a clone .

has anyone used one of these kits?, and which does anyone recommend?

It may not be as nefarious as it first appears. I've read from other threads that there is a region in China that has a dozen companies which make electric bike parts. If there is a large hub-motor factory there, they may make hubs for several different companies. Conhis's motor supplier may just be using the some of the same parts made from the GM parts line.

If you were to approach such a factory with an order for several thousand hub-motors that are made a specific way, they will bid on becoming your supplier. You can specify a beautiful exterior with weak and cheap guts made to a low standard of quality, or a rough and cheap outer appearance combined with robust and high-quality drive parts. Everything is negotiable.

As far as the wording on their website being so similar, have you read some of the "Chinglish" in websites and instruction pamplets? They translate the info with a computer and its never edited by a native english-speaker. To start a new company, it would not be strange for them to just copy/paste large chunks of the GM website, and then slowly modify it over time.

Then again, GM may just be forming a new generic "more affordable" brand using some of the the same parts...who knows?

However, there is a saying...if you go to sleep with a dog, you wake up with fleas.

if you eventually open up the motor we can say whether or not it is a goldenmotor. but there are dozens of manufacturers who make identical interchangeable motors. same is true with controllers and chargers, but there capital can make them in large scale more eficiently. so there are some large manufacturers too in shen zhen.

Hey Dnmun

Have you got that GM hub yet, the one you bought off here not long ago?

What do you think of them?, Compare them with another popular brand you have used and tinkered with, Ive only owned one brand as I bought two GM kits and I figured that should do me for a while..

3 goldenmotors now, 26" front & rear, and a 20" front i just got, all 36V500W. have not run with one yet.

the ribs on the inside of the cover plate are distinctive, and the way they rivet the two stamped metal pieces together for the stator frame, and the magnets, and the windings and the fabric insulating abrasion shields, the little pcb in the motor for the hall sensors and the cap.

i think goldenmotors just has a bad rap because so many people were complaining about them openly because of the poor customer relations and the problems with the regen controllers.

i wanna get this 20" into my actionbent lowracer. been waiting to find something to fit that front wheel and this 20" may do it.

Yea and a good 60v, 72v pack would set that 20" spinning nice. Man that 20" should have some balls on it.

interestingly, if you look on e-bay, for 48v 1000w motor kits the dealer "sannykung" shows a motor details page which is apparently a document by golden motor, which suggests is his supplier.

so i wanted to see what the cost would be for a basic system:

26”|Rear Rim Without Tyre & Tube|36V 500W|No 5Ah Fast Charger|Standard Controller|Thumb Throttle|No Pedelec Sensor|36V 10Ah LiFePO4 With Battery Bag, BMS, Charger

US$ 355.00
Delivery method is EMS,US$ 175.88

Amount: US$ 530.88

sounds too good to be true, yet i am deeply interested.

Hello all,

This is not our company, not our sister company, they are a website rip-off, and you know what we do to web rippers? we sue them. However they have not used any of our professional photos yet, and our profile isn't patented. Hence we can't sue them like we did to upmotor.com (already dropped dead). If they got the motors from our suppliers (no bond, no patent), so be it. However if they start selling Magic Pies, then i'll have to sue them as well. We don't want to monopolize this, which is why we're planning to discontinue our 36V500W motor very soon after Magic Pie has yielded positive results. They can get their market share, it's not really nice if we were to put them out of business. However, ripping off our website just pisses me off, but at the same time it makes me laugh because if you noticed, the pictures they use are done with relatively low photoshop skills, and the only posts are posted by themselves in their forum, funniest of all, their name ConHisMotor, does that mean they Conned Our Motors? What does Con His even mean? Strange but since they've just started, and if their product works well and they stay clear of patented products of GM, or heavily paid-for pictures by our new web designers, then there's nothing much GM will do to them. You guys should have been there when UpMotor website was online, that was the best laugh for the whole company.

ive bought two kits from "sannykung" on ebay. ive received good service on both occasions(my controller with the first kit blew and they posted replacement) and their communication has been prompt and honest. im still fitting the second kit (both 24v 500 watt) but the first kit has proved to be reasonably powerful, pulling my trike along nicely, the casings look well finished, the connectors are terrible and i have replaced them all, i suspect this blew the first controller, i think this is my only complaint given the price! only time will tell how long they last, im thinking of buying my third soon! what put me of g-m was the tales of bad service and the tone of some of their forum posts- good honest service does it for me. so far i wouldn't hesitate to recommend them! :D

I've got a 'conhismotor' with GM serial numbers on it - he is probably buying from the same manufacturer/assembler. Those batteries though are shocking - ATL pouches that puff badly, and the first/last cells always die. If they used some decent bloody wire then they would probably last better.

ive opened my cohnis hub up (just cant leave stuff alone) what information would you need to settle this?

Is Conhis actually still in business? I mailed a simple inquiry to barbara@conhismotor.com on Jan 18, and then info@conhismotor.com on Jan 21, but still no reply from either...

Also there is no life in their forum. I have not yet been admitted to it since I signed up on Jan 21, nor do I see any recent posts (apart from spam).

I wanted to make up my mind about buying either from them or from Paul aka Cellman aka http://www.emissions-free.com/, but as Paul is the only one who at least answers mails, I guess I'll have no choice :) Anyway, Conhis shipping to Europe is so incredibly expensive (they don't offer sea shipping), it's almost as much for shipping as for the two kits I wanted to order.

Hmm, I just looked it up, and the Chinese spring holidays have yet to come, from Feb. 2 - 8. So, I'm still not very sure about what's going on.

Sounds close enough to holiday to me.
