Seems like a good way to get a free tool to sell on eBay, or get a 3 bay charger or another battery.

That's true, and free shipping!

I haven't done the math, but I suspect buying a kit and selling off the tool(s) would be cheaper still. Plus you could elect to have your "free tool" be another batter, or a 3 bay charger!
