Gotrax motor will not engage

Greetings!

Scored two broken Gottrax GXL (?) scooters from FB for $25 and didn't want to pass up the deal. I never owned a electric scooter before so pardon me if I don't know the jargon.

One of the scooters turns on and I can see the speed display but the other one doesn't
The previous owner said that one needed a new battery and he was right. I swapped the batteries and it turned on both scooters but neither of the motors are engaging.

I was wondering if this is common issue with scooters when they haven't been used in a while and if so is it worth breaking the motor apart or just getting a new motor altogether?

I'm not familiar with that exact model, but many scooters require you get it moving a little before the motor will engage.
Other reasons for the motor not running would be a brake lever switch is on, low battery voltage, or throttle voltage out of range.

I'd try measuring the battery voltage to make sure that's in the normal range. The bad battery may be fixable if it's possible to take it apart enough to get to the BMS circuit inside. Many times there's just a broken wire.
