Grin Baserunner L10 to Computer Analyst V3 connection

Hi, I'm trying to build a setup with a Grin Baserunner L10 controller and Computer Analyst V3 (old model without the WP8 connector plug to directly connect to the Baserunner). I've wired everything up, but although the CA lights up and displays, the Baserunner doesn't seem to be turning on (no lights). Looking at a number of old posts on this forum it seems that I need to short the WP8 Power on/off directly to the battery+ in order to turn on the Baserunner. Is this really correct ? It seems a little odd to be putting 42V directly into another input.

I realise that Grin have the JST_WP8F cable for this purpose, however it's time consuming and expensive to get that from the UK. Also it appears to have an additional 2 pin connector on the CA side, about which there is no information - is this a switch to turn on the Baserunner (similar to shorting power on/off to battery +) ?
