Grin V3 STD versus SLW

I am ready to order a Grin hub front wheel for our 29er tandem with 6x LiGo.

We ride loaded - so figure 200kg. I can sustain 170 watts - my wife does what she can (76 & 73).

It's hilly here - we'd like to be able to ride from our door like we did 15 years ago prior to her heart surgery. The motor is for the hills.

When I run the route simulator on a favorite route even restriciting speed to 15km/h on the motor simulator on a 10% grade @4mph the STD wind is always a slight bit more efficient, runs cooler, takes us farther.

What gives? I think our situation would favor the SLW wind.... should I trust the simulator and order STD? If not for us, when would SLW be better?

I trust the simulator. We ride like we ride and you configure a setup to your riding. So if a standard wind is better I would get that. have found running a motor at half speed not throttle but rpm you gain some efficiency but that is a small area and can not explain why.

I have a slow wind leaf motor 7T but it is what I need. My normal top speed is 28 (trike will do 32 have it limited to 28) but do most of my riding is around15. almost half the speed. works out great for me.

I don't remember where I read it, maybe on their site or maybe it was here, but with the given wire and stator used the std wind is able to fit a slight bit more copper in than the other winds resulting in a bit more efficiency. So I concur, trust the simulator. It'll be fine.

^-- that's the true difference between winds. sometimes one wind can get more coper fill than another. the rest is feeding the appropriate amps/watts for the situation.
