hacking wiiceiver: logging current

Austin is it possible to make an esc that will have higher regen? I'm surprised at how high it is actually as I'd heard it was only about 6% but this is showing more. What esc were you using anyway? Then again maybe the regen ability is high and you just didn't brake much. How much you think it's capable of? Maybe a log of continuous go and stop behavior would be more revealing.
If anyone is interested in an audino uno I'm in sf and I never used it. 20$ delivered around here

0: peak discharge: 7.44A; peak regen: -2.52A; total Discharge: 20.12mAh; total Regen: 1.52mAh; net discharge: 18.60mAh in 60 seconds
#1: peak discharge: 31.18A; peak regen: -4.28A; total Discharge: 1418.29mAh; total Regen: 30.41mAh; net discharge: 1387.88mAh in 1807 seconds
#2: peak discharge: 38.89A; peak regen: -6.15A; total Discharge: 613.13mAh; total Regen: 19.33mAh; net discharge: 593.80mAh in 722 seconds
#3: peak discharge: 38.14A; peak regen: -6.54A; total Discharge: 1724.47mAh; total Regen: 29.53mAh; net discharge: 1694.94mAh in 2011 seconds

How is that high? Total Regen 29.53mAh off of 1694.94Mah

6% is 101.69Mah.. but what would 101.69Mah get you?

Lost cause IMO. That's like walking and eating and trying to lose weight.

Oo du. I see its a lot less. Was reading the wrong category. So it is like 6% still if even that. Regen is awesome though. I Can't come up with a good analogy related to walking and eating. Maybe like walking and peanuts keep popping out of your pocket at every intersection and youre not overweight and like peanuts.
I think there's likely a lot of regen potential since the tesla and others are getting up to 85%

no ... it is not even 6%.. that is the whole point..
29.5/1694 is less than 2%...
And if he footbrakes, or rides only on flats then the regen is zero... the same with your 85% tesla.. if he doesnt brake it is zero...

Regen is short for regenerative braking... not regenerative coasting, or regenerative wishful hopes, so neither will affect the outcome. Math is math, for better or for worse, and a 2% difference is negligible when your batteries unbalance by the end of your ride by a couple tenths of a volt.. On a 12 kilometer ride this difference is 208 meters, the average voltage imbalance in my 6s batteries (when my batt monitor starts beeping) equates to much more than this..

I know how it works. Was saying more regenerative braking would be a good thing. Hard to argue with that. 2% is not much. I read 6% is typical with hobby escs. SF has a lot of hills and stopping necessary.
Getting your cells unbalanced...sounds bad

I have made two boards. The big one never had a problem with braking. The smaller had only one drive wheel and was still pretty good, certainly enough that I had to pay attention with the brakes at higher speeds.

Generating power isn't really all that hard; i think regen braking is more for having somewhere to put that energy, it has to either come out as heat or go into the batteries.

If you're in a really hilly environment you might recover a little on braking, but it's probably not going to help as much as going UP hurts you. Vedder's VESC will probably give a little more efficiency but honestly you're never going to break even between braking downhill and riding up.
