This came up on another list I'm on.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320338233525#description

Its supposedly a prius replacement battery pack using the housing of the orignal and they stuff it with A123 cells and supercapacitors and a charger. There are a ton of questions asked its interesting to read them.

Here's what the seller says about the battery, 'The Lithium Ion cells are from A123. The total voltage is 252 Volts. The Amp hours are 9.6 and the super capacitors are one farad. The charger takes 8 hours or less and uses 120 volts. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.'

He says it will give the prius 40 mile all electric range and will cost $6500 with the core charge.

Does this sound believable to y'all or more like snake oil?

Uhhhhh....No!

The Gen. 3 standard prius battery is 201.6V nom. at 6.5 Ah or 1310.4Wh

This one is 252V at 9.6Ah or 2419Wh.

Not quite double the energy at a much higher voltage (Harmful to the system?)

EV only range of existing prius models are reported by most to be less than 10 miles, which means this battery is still less than 20 miles.

According to this:
http://machinist.salon.com/blog/2008/09/22/chevy_volt/
The Volt is supposed to have a 16,000Wh battery to go 40 miles.

Claims on the auction seem a little excessive.

One thing that I thought was interesting is the number of questions asked. Seems like this guy has hit a nerve with Prius owners. Too bad its probably snake oil.

He claims that this is everything you need to turn a prius into a plug-in....seems pretty unbelievable to me...but I'm no where near an expert which is why I ask y'all.

Ahhh, here is the culprit

Q: I assume you are supplying a BMS system. correct? And the original Prius is 6 ahr not 1.2 Feb-12-09
A: the original system works fine with the shock absorbtion of the large capacity capacitors. The prius batttery has all its cells in series and the information I have says that it has 1,2 amp hours.

He has the wrong info on Ah
