Re: What is your best price for Headway lifepo4 battery 48v20Ah for electric motorcycles

Dear Mr.Benett,

Thanks for your inquriy!

The cost for 48v20Ah pack is 460usd/pack FOB Shanghai, for 5packs is 2300USD, and the shipping cost by UPS is 850USD.So the total cost is 3150USD.

The 48v20Ah pack is a complete pack built with BMS, please see the attached specifications.

So, $630 each.

These are 10C, but don't see a weight listed on the product spec sheet.

Will probably do a lipo pack instead for a 48+V batterey.

they're 300 grams per cell, so 32 cells would be 9.6kg, plus packaging/bms/etc... so maybe 11kg I'd guess....about 24.25lbs

thats $19.69 each cell, in a prebuilt pack with BMS shipped? thats not too bad actually.... its pretty good. I think the best US based price (before they stopped selling) was about $19 for a loose cell.

realize, you probably won't get ANY support or warranty by buying direct from china, and cannot guarantee that they'll actually ship anything if you wire them money. So there is risk involved.

Here's a follow-up quote for their 48V, 10AH battery:

Dear Tom,

The cost for 48v10Ah is 290USD/pack FOB Shanghai, for 10packs, the total cost is 2900USD.

And for 10packs of 48v10Ah and 48v20Ah packs, we can make shipment by sea, which is cheaper.

I imported 1500 Headway cells and BMS last year, importing is tricky, you have to pay customs/duty and pay for a customs broker to handle the import. Most of the time its cheaper to just go air..... but I can help direct you.... you're right down the road from me.... I live in Beaverton.

I used Allports, Inc for my customs broker, and picked up at the warehouse out by the airport.

I just ordered direct from Victoria. Wired my money. And they shipped it on a boat and it arrived at my door.

The only hiccup was the shipping expectation. I expected it to get here within 2 weeks, and they expected to ship within 2 weeks. But the timing wasn't a big deal to me as I hadn't even built the bike yet. Also, be sure to ask for the plastic case if you want it. I assumed they were included, but thankfully asked during the process. I think they'll ship them as a ductape pack if you don't ask for the solid box.

And the prices seem about right. I priced my two 36v20Ah packs from a bunch of places and direct from Victoria was the best by far (not to mention fastest even with delay).

Victoria hasn't let anyone down on this forum so far. I can't imagine there's as much risk with Headway as there is with some no-name shop over there or on international eBay.

Good luck!

Well, let me clarify a few things:
- Victoria is NOT headway, she works for an trading company that exports. She does have close ties with Headway and gets good prices, but not factory direct.
- She did not honor warranty on BMS boards that we bought, I tried, she refused.
- Double check counts on all components. I was short several wiring harnesses and after months of emails to her, I gave up. I never got the harnesses.
- I tried to get warranty replacements on some bad cells cells, and that too failed.

Other notable problems:
- She told me they would ship in a couple weeks, but it was almost 2 months later due to "delays on the BMS"....she neglected to tell me, otherwise I'd have had her start shipment on the cells and have her air freight the BMS.
- She is slow to respond/ignores some emails.
- She forgot to send via mail the Bill of Laiding, so it delayed things until we recieved that. Copies are not permitted.

This was a year ago, maybe she's better, but I STILL doubt her "warranty" claims, if there are any. Just make sure you have everything laid out. I'd get in writing a warranty agreement, especially on bad cells and bad BMS.

As Frodus has said, Victoria is not Headway. The prices you can get from Headway direct are likely not as low as you can get Victoria, but Headway will not support products sold by Victoria. I get the impression there is no love lost between Headway and Victoria.

What is going on. I sent her an email about 2 month ago asking about headway pack and she told me they no longer sell 1 or 2 pack and i have to buy bulk. What the hell. I was discriminated somehow?

Totally it's discrimination. Victoria can't stop hating on New Jersey. See if you can get a friend in New York to ship it to. (she's a big JayZ fan, but absolutely HATES Jersey Shore).

Seriously, I don't know. Sounds like a change in policy.

My question is why wont A123 or some other American battery company start a battery plant here in the USA and ship to all of us? Why china for everything?

Reality is we're still not ready to pay for battery pack at 3 times the cost. Now if American is willing to work at the same/similar rate to china's employee, maybe. I don't think it will be reasonable. Foxconn employees gets equivalent of $160/month. Pretty sure you can't match that.

Have robots and other machines do the work. Raw materials cost aren't any different, so the savings on transportation cost will make it economically viable. It's the current legal status for A123 that prevents it at this moment in time.
