HOT GLUE for BMS Wires???

As I attach the BMS leads to the cells in my new pack, I can't help but wonder if minor (very minor) movement over the years will cause the insulation on the leads to wear through, and short with the connecting bars between cells.

To remedy this potential problem, I'm thinking of using a thick bead of hot glue to literally glue down the wires to the connecting bars, so they won't move around and chafe through. The bead would be thick, of course, to add extra insulation between the wire and the bars.

Granted, I plan on wrapping the whole thing tightly with Saran wrap when it's done, but adding some hot glue to add extra insurance seems like agood idea.

Clear silicon adhesive is my other idea. HOwever, it takes a long time to dry. Hot glue sets up in seconds to really hold on.

Anyone ever tried this?

Will it work?

Hell yeah.. i love hot glue ! :p

I've added some thick plastic ( crazy carpet is cheap and tough stuff, kids plastic sheet used to slide down snow hills ) between the ballancing wires and the metal straps, then hot glued the whole thing down over and under. Then filament tape, then heat shrink, then foam, and a box.. lol... great fun.

Agreed. Second only to duct tape as the most useful thing on the planet. Just last night I pulled open my basement door only to find the knob in my hand... the poor thing was stripped bare... copious amounts of hot glue later and it's a brand new door handle. Love the stuff. Hell... I use to make hot glue "people" for my old HO gauge trainset... like hot glue arms and legs etc. Brilliant stuff.

Hotmelt works great.

I tend to heat shrink-tube the entire portion of the balance/sense wires that are around the bussbars, on higher voltage packs anyway. Belt and suspenders. I also do it to the temp sensor wiring. Others use kapton tapes etc.

I see you are using aluminum bus bars. In case you haven't used something, here is a widely availible product, that really helps reduce poor connections due to corrosion between copper and alu and steel etc. It's cheap and it works. - No-alox
