How Many Watts / Amps will this motor handle

I have been wanting to try out a DD Rear Hub motor since many of the long time people here have used them and many still do.

I have contacted Solarbike in Australia , but they could only tell me that they use 36 or 48 volts and about 25 amps or less.

Most everything I have read shows people here using at least 2,000 watts, and even 3,000-6,000 watts with a Rear DD Hub.

The cover says Solarbike , the date on the cover is February 2012 , and the next set of numbers are 0222, I do know it is a MXUS made for Solarbike.

It weighs about 14.5 pounds with the rim and heavy spokes.

What will this motor run on Continuously ?

I would really like to run 2500 or more watts , 16s or 18s battery pack, about 29- 30 amps Continuous .

the first things I did was go to the Grin Website and try look up ,

However

They only list the newer and more powerful MXUS 45 motor

Not The older XF 40 motor from 2012 , which is he motor I have.

Which XF40 do you have? There are at least two types, one of which is narrow and typically rated 1000w-1500w, and one of which is wide and typically rated 3000w (XF40-45H, IIRC).

It says XF 40 on the Side cover.

being a 2012 year model I am sure it is the lower powered one , there is an article somewhere where I think Spinning Magnets talks about the Version 2 of a MXUS that has 45 mm stator with an aluminium inner that takes more power.

I am pretty sure the XF 40 means it is the older 40 mm stator .

I was guessing it is 1k-1.5k , but , as written here many times on E.S. , many people who have DD Motors have and like them because they can put much more power into them.

Which is the only reason for me to experiment with one .

So I am wondering who had one in the past and what they could put through it and keep it running.

The function I want it to do is to run high speeds on open back country roads , where there are very few stop signs.

isnt the XF40 a 40mm stator hub motor? IIRC its rated 1500w continuous from the factory which means you can dump about 4500-5000w into it all day long

edit: looks like they also make 28-30mm wide stator 9c clones which also say XF40 a long time ago. This is probably only going to give you 3000w max

I would check how wide the motor is and go by that

OK Good , that is the info I am looking for.

Edit : How do I know , Do I have to take it apart to measure it ?
I did measure the outside and it could be any one of those numbers 38mm up to 40.

In any case I was not planing on running it more than 3000 watts, at least continuously.

what about amps ?

the controller I have coming is rated up to 30 amps . ( 9 fet IFRB 4110 , 36v-72v )

My Guess was that it could do more than 30 amps , but I will not be getting another controller for a while . Gotta save up for next gen mid-drive.

Anyone here put 40 or more amps through the older ( 2012 ) MXUS XF 40 motors ?

Ok was trying to get more watts through it , but that would be fun to play around with, until the newer and lighter weight versions of mid-drives are developed and ready for sale.

I will however be using less than 72 volt through it because , I have two 8s Hobby Packs for a 16s pack,
and 3 6s packs for 18s
so in reality I will be running on less than 2160 w
