How much money have you burned?

How much magic smoke from parts have you released or otherwise destroyed in the making of your e-bike? Include motors and controllers burned out, welders welded to themselves, visits to the ER, frames bent in half, wheels tacoed, holes punched in walls, grandma's washing machine all scratched up (... Link....), etc. etc. Don't forget to post your story!

* One Doc Wattson power monitor
* One ESC (rc motor speed controller)
* One servo tester
* One burned finger
* One soldering iron
* some other stuff... mumble... mumble....

Blew 2 YiYun brushed controller
20 IRF4110 burned after so many controller modification
Few capacitor
10 pitted powerpoles from too high voltage without soft start.
broken tv stand after scooter plow into it.
Broken pair of bearing after collision with car

Major bruise on leg after trying to stop a run away scooter
Huge rug burn from forearm to elbow after falling off scooter
Sprained wrist and possible hairline fracture after incident involving light pole

I've been lucky. I've only blown up one Yi-Yun brushed controller and potatoe'd a wheel.

Cosmetic damage = $0.

And it was the DRYER. I'll probably repaint the thing before I move out, because I'm such a nice person :wink:.

I've not yet experienced the effects of magic smoke but I did throw away $40 on a digital camera off craigslist that worked for a week. Add another twenty bux for rechargeable batteries to run it. I wanted to document my build for youse guys so instead you'll now have to settle for phone pix.
I shoulda bought the heat gun instead.

EDIT: After sitting a week or so in a drawer with some loose crystals, the damn thing made a funny beep when I turned it on and then started working again! 8)

I did a running calculation in another thread and it was 2100-2200. Subtracting the cost of the new bike to replace the old one, around 1700 for the whole electric adventure and around 1200-1300 for the "Total current bike" including the batteries and bike.

Oh, I've smoked.... nothing.'Cuz I'm cautious like that (Well, more or less fairly conventional thusfar. I'm sure once I get into electronics and all the pathways that leads to, I'll have smoked a few things. Not marijuana, though.).

(I have, however, "burnt" my finger on a soldering iron though it didn't really have a lasting effect.)

I did lose a locking washer. And the future locking washer I purchased thereafter squeezed itself apart, so I had to replace that(I bought an extra one just in case it happens again). I've also wasted like $70 on a bike that I eventually found it didn't really "fit me"(First experience with that) and other slightly expensive learning lessons.

You mean just my own stuff? I'm pretty careful with that. But I'm "happy to help" others! I modded someones EVT to 72 volts, with an Alltrax. But rode it before I turned the Alltrax down from 300 amps. Took off like a rocket, and hit about 55 mph. Holy Moley, that was a ride! Lasted several minutes, too!

Unfortunately, even the guy next door came over to find out where the smell was coming from. Just my stuff, or do you want the good stories?
