You'd have to be a wheelie king to ride away with it at least...

One nice thing about an ebike, It gets hard to run carrying it, since it weighs 85 pounds. But yeah, to really lock a bike, you have to get both wheels, the frame a post, and maybe even the seat.

My grandfather had an old single-seat police Harley stolen from his back yard when he was at church. He had bought it used at an auction, and had never gotten it running, but it was valuable nevertheless.

Questioning neighbors, two guys dragged it out of the back yard and and lifted it one axle at a time into the back of a pick-up truck. It took all of 5 minutes after they backed into the driveway, and they were long gone by the time the police showed up. The engine had been kept running the whole time and the truck had duct tape over the license plate, no doubt removed after a few blocks. Since it was done as soon as my grandparents had left for church, it had been planned out, and staked out ahead of time.

For a rusty thrift-store bike, oh well...but for a $1,000+ E-bike that might be sold for $200, never sell short the resourcefulness of a street thug in need of a $20 fix ! I have seen the $90 window of a car broken to steal a $5 pair of sunglasses.

That has to just be someone being funny.

I guess I haven't seen anyone lock in exactly that unfortunate way, but I often see bikes locked in a way that one could easily lift the bike and lock off a sign pole or similar. Even more convenient for the thief to be: many just pass the ulock through the frame, so if the lock can be slipped off whatever it is attached to, the thief can just ride away.

I admit doing the frame locking myself, when locking fame and wheel is challenging, but I at least try to make sure the ulock goes through a continuous loop of metal in the other end, or it is at least a somewhat tamper proof pole (e.g. parking meter.)

Now, in Sweden a gang once massacred all the parking meters in a town. They had a pipe saw and just chopped them off, so of course nothing is truly safe.

About the fun of stupid thieves, and benighted bike-keepers (so sorry about that Harley---that was pure, pro-evil),

You can see a great movie and right off the bat you see how quick a meter post could be cut,
forty years ago, or today.

Also, somewhere on YT is a hilarious "set up the thief for fun" video.
It may have been shown here on the boards before, but what the heck,
let me find it and embed the video into this posting, probably in a few minutes.
Go to the actual page to read all the fun comments! Double click the player window to go right to YT
and laugh, laugh, laugh!

stand by...searching....
