how tight is your belt? Carbon motor mount

do you have a good way to decide how tight to run your belt?

I'm making a mount that wont allow the motor to be moved for adjusting the belt tension. I want to drill the bolt holes so the belt tension is ideal.

You should add in belt tension. Because the belts always work better when tight (not too tight).

You also get more life out of your belt as you can adjust it when it stretches naturally.

Bad idea to not have option for belt tension. I don't see why you wouldn't it doesn't affect it in anyway. It just gives you much more options.

Single holes are much easier, but you need to adjust belt tension. No question about it.

Have you considered using an idler gear? This can let you adjust belt tension but isn't as neat as slots are. Little bit chunky, but only requires one slotted hole to be cut. Alternatively you could get a machine shop to make the mounts, slots are easy on the mill.

what belt and pulley profiles work for boards? There are so many. I'm looking for any kevlar belt instead of the fiberglass neoprene as I hear they never stretch. Searched on here for what timing belt pulley and belt teeth profiles can be used and didn't find an answer. I'm sure it's here somewhere. I'd rather make a mount with holes for the motor instead of slots is the reason.

someone I know uses kevlar belts on bikes and he says as apposed to using a chain he's never had to tension it or replace it. would make life easier.

RedRock boardshop didn't have tension slots on the Lagrange trucks. My first mounts didn't either. The shorter the center to center distance the better. 58mm. The shorter the belts can be the better. It may be why I haven't had any trouble with belts stretching.

Hummina? Why are you still fiddling with mounts? Shouldn't you have like 15 complete boards by now?

I know it seems silly I'm still making a mount. I never wanted to buy a mount and have spent 2 years planning on making one. It's pretty weird.
I'll send you a pic when I'm done. Most importantly I have a higher paying job coming in two weeks. Back to the sub teaching pool for 175 a day! I miss subbing.

been working on my mount probably 4 hours today. 2 more hours and I pour the next mold. like this but shorter and thinner. with the vacuum and pressure pot, and 2 more hours of polishing.. I'm psyched to get it to as clear as glass. I've been making mounts but banging them off to make another. I made a silicone mold, and another, .. had a mold for just the mount, then a mold the hanger fit in, and this next one tomorrow I'll have the hanger encased in a mold. been thinking of casting the hanger too. been using different resins and carbon and there are a lot of them out there that will work. dont know about what'd be need to make the hanger though. Carbon reinforced plastic can be poped out of my mold in 15 minutes and ridden. stuff sets and gets too hot to hold in 5 minutes. But there are a couple clear resins that set over a long enough time to vacuum and pressure pot them. I'll pop out a marble for you by next week

but realllly waiting for the hub motors from china!

i did make an aluminum plate on the cad cnc but no one wanted to weld it and I decided I wanted something else.. this was after the hub motor I made too. i threw it out after it faded. never wanted to buy a mount. spent a fortune on everything else. I like my new coming mount. and that will hold me till the hub motors.

i did a year ago and put a video up here riding it but it broke down. it was a bad design. cant find a photo. it was taking apart a tacon 160 and then putting it back together with tiny bearings on the hanger. I'm sure you remember.

but getting samples made in china...sooooon. I told people here i'd sell them at cost. I'm getting 4 samples and .. would rather just get them now and see how that goes and then see if people are interested.

My pressure pot and vacuum are both down. This isn't perfectly clear but is definitely strong enough

You need good speed before going, at least 3 - 5 kicks. Else, they will cog. After that, it pulls strong. Pretty sure it will go over 20mph. I've ridden so many setups that I can tell already. Did it on both 6s with Xerun and Fvt ESCs. Waiting for 8s Mamba XL2. I think I'd eventually end up with VESC, but just wanted to test other ESCs, so I can recommend something for customers that don't know or don't want to fiddle with VESC.

ive been on here for ages trying to find the quietest esc, dont care bout size anymore. What u find? .. The only sine esc is about 3x the cost. Im ok w the going its the screeching when stopping. Thought the flier 8s might be better but never got that far fore it blew up. Maybe programming? U got the hw150 box? The skate forum needs prog box rental. There was a cheap card now 30 buck box.... Geting bit smaller hubmotors w 47 stator not ur 53. Steel rotor one piece. Any loose mags ever? Prob add glue. .2mm laminations stator. As good as scorpion if not better. Id buy urs but.. can wait. 4 once.

This mount is made with task9 from smooth-o . Super strong , heat not bad. Bit yellow but cures in an hour. Clear resins take 24 hours. Just made a new mold w a mother mold of carbon and epox . Its all about making the mold that can reproduce exactly and not leak. I like it
I'd show my mold pics but they're too big. This isn't a mold making forum but ..

Anyone want this? I'll give it to u for cost. 10 bucks. And the trucks retail cost me 55. I'll give u a matching pulley and belt for retail cost but Youll have to get the wheel pulley; I don't have extra. Want to not have to spend the time banging it off to try another... Waste. Want to make my dream motor mount...forever.
I don't know what motors will fit but tacon160 bolt pattern will.
