Hello all,

i have a Giant Anthem 27.5 2015 i bought last summer. I thought it had a standard bottom bracket, but unfortunately not. I measured the bottom bracket: 88mm.

Is there a way to fix the bafang BBS02 or BBS03 100mm on it? SOmeone told me to use locking washers to place over the axle on both sides (to make up 6mm on each side). Then purchase longer bolts to lock on the u-shaped mounting plate.

Of course solution is to sell the bike and buy another one with standard bottom bracket, but before this, i want to see if others issues is possible.

thanxs

Or go with a different kit. Tangent Dave would be my choice.

Yes probably possible to use a wider BB Bafang type but its gonna be pretty wide and awkward. I would be going with a different kit, nothing wrong with the bike.

It might be possible to trim the edges of the BB to the width you want. You might put a hose clamp over the part of the BB that you want to keep, and use its edge as a guide to make a reasonably straight cut/grind. I advise any attempt to do this to leave it a hair fat, and to approach the final fitting in small steps...

Doing so could destroy the bike, and at best you might need to take it to a bike shop to have them "face" the two side-edges to make them smooth, straight, and perfectly perpendicular. Then, they may need to recut the ID threads a little deeper. If you try this, pay close attention to the chainline, as you may need to trim one side more than the other. Also, the front of the right-side chainstay may intrude into the space that the reduction gear of the BBS02 want to occupy.

If the frame is ruined, I will publicly apologize, and then privately welcome you to the exclusive club of experienced frame hackers...pay no attention to the enormous pile of twisted metal behind my shed, move along, nothing to see here (*sips beer, and stares off into space, pensive ponders scars on his hands)
