Often called for in confusing language as motor magnets X reduction ratio or gear ratio etc. What they want is the pole pulses in a revolution.
I saw something about this on Grin's sight to be fair, and hinted for direct drive motors. But this question gets asked again and again.
I tried this and found it very simple, all you need is a jumper.
Disconnect battery.
Unplug motor plug (9 pin tested).
Jumper any two of the big pins.
Line up the tire valve with something for a reference to mark a full turn.
Rotating the wheel backwards, you will feel distinct cogging.
Count the "cogs" for a full turn.
There's your magic number, in my case 100 pulses. 20 magnets and a 5:1 gear ratio.
With a direct drive motor you can turn either way.
Forgive me if this is already common knowlege.
