Huge increase in shipping charges from China

I just looked at some of my saved searches in eBay, and the 250 Watt front hub motor kits that had free or cheap shipping charges are now charging $200 to ship things!

This just happened within the last month or two. I'd saved some buyers in my watch list w/ the idea of putting a front hub motor kit on another bike I bought. Amazon still has some kits for around $225-$250, so that's an option. I also noticed just now that there are no Ancheer bikes for sale on eBay at all. None. There were a dozen or more sellers that had them recently. There's now two on Amazon like the one I have (w/ a different name, but it's the same bike), and some Ancheers that have bigger motors and bigger, heavier batteries for a higher price.

So the options are to buy some spares now, or punt, w/ the idea that things will change again some time in the future.

A lot of air freight is done in the cargo area of passenger planes.
Because these have reduced in frequency, the prices have shot up. Supply and demand.

Well before the China Virus Epidemic, I noticed s/h prices went up. I wanted to buy a Leaf motor and noticed the price went up $50 or so.

Did you really believe that Trump commercial war with China would be paid by the Chinese?
Or that a wall would be paid by Mexicans?

Nope. You are paying, and just started to.

It is a trick they use , advertise a low price to sucker you into buying from them then make the money by inflating the shipping costs.

You can see this by all the small items ( not e-bike items ) that you can buy on e-bay that come from China .

I have gotten many items lately from China that have free shipping, all under $ 40 items, most ( 95 % of them were under $ 15 ) dollar items many under $ 10 ...
with free shipping .

Weight also plays a factor , but then again I paid over $ 25 , for a controller that weighed less than 1 pound just recently .

Grin Technologies has higher prices but realistic shipping costs . ( at least to the U.S. )

BMS Battery is like that, a $50 motor with $125 shipping costs. I like the websites that you can get the shipping costs without going all the way through the ordering process.

Grintech is obviously top notch in their sales and service and on their website you can get the shipping costs easily without any extra effort as mentioned.

Apparently this is all due to the corona virus. What isn't these days? It's been a perfect storm for the shipping industry, especially air and ship. When the factories in Asian countries shut down due to the virus, everything just stopped. But the boats had legal contracts to sail, so they had to sail, even though they often were not fully loaded, or in some cases empty. They're trying to get back some of their losses or they will go out of business. Let's face it, no one's gonna drive those things over to us from Asia. Personally, and this is not politics, it's OK w/ me seeing the shipping increases. It took me a while to get to this point, but now I would much prefer to get locally sourced parts than get them from overseas, even at a price premium.
