Well, after almost 2 years of use (normal use, without abuse on volts and amps - normally charging at 3A), my unit suddenly starts to give me this warning in LCD screen.

The manual, in troubleshooting, says to: inspect all cables (done), spray in all connectors de-oxide contact spray, insert and remove all connectors several times and try again (done), use a fully charged car battery (done)... And nothing: the warning remais there.

I opened the charger, and everything appears to be fine: no burning smell, no popped capacitors... I just don't removed the heat sink (propably fets there, I don't know). The only strange thing I notice is a lot of old thermal paste dryed inside the unit.

My firmware is 5.5 (i guess). There is a 5.8 version. Is it a good idea try to upgrade to see if it come back to life?

Any other tips or ideas? Experiences with this problem?

you don't use a power supply to drive the balance charger?

i was thinking that you get that error because it cannot switch enuff current at the input voltage you are using to make it work to minimum charge levels. just my idea of what is happening. it may and likely is something else but raising the input voltage is all i can think to test.

My troubleshooting led to a main cable connection that was high resistance in my A123 battery. I made a new ring connector out of soldered wire and it helped a bit. My Hyperion charger is still not reliable for regular use but it can charge maybe 70% of the time. It was not the balance cables. I gotta say the Thunder 1220 works perfect all the time with a 15 volt 20 amp power supply. It ends up charging at 6 amps. The Hyperion uses a genuine Meanwell and charges at 24 volts and about 4 amps. More gets unstable. Still junk in my opinion.

I'm using 14s, so in theory, the 1420i is the perfect choice. I will try to find a 24v power supply near here, but if the problem remains, what is my best choice in another charger?

And what about upgrade the firmware?

do you have two 12V lead acid batteries you can use? just to test to see if the voltage is a fix. then swap firmware.

did you look inside the box to see if anything was burned up or looked like it had failed?

Did your charger say "Output Circuit Error" or "Output Circuit Problem"? I'm getting "Output Circuit Problem" on mine, coupled with a beeping noise. Did you manage to solve your problem?

I opened mine up, including the heatsink to reveal the FETs, but didn't see any signs of burnt traces. I already have the latest firmware V5.86.

You are correct, "problem" is what appears on LCD.

I bought a 24v 17A meanwell clone power supply today and, at least untill now, the problem appears to be solved. At this moment I am with a 6s 5800 mAh in a lipo store mode at 1.5Ah.

I will report after more tests!

Yes mine works but does have a bitchie side if i don't like the voltage of the balance cells I just jiggle the wires till it reads the numbers I like. 3.28 3.11v a little jiggle and 3.28v all cells.
