I want to know what the top 5 cell phone makers are.
I think Samsung is up there top 3 I think. Apple is probably #1.
But I also want to know durability factors.
I think the features are probably all equal.
I am a basic user, text, calls, internet, youtube, simple games.

I know about GSMArena.com, I used that to compare functions and frequencies, megapixels etc.

I was shopping for a phone to use mainly as a camera and also a toy so I could learn about android. Bought Samsung Galaxy S4, slightly used on eBay. Downloaded a free GPS program.

Looked at millions of pictures of cell phone cases. Chose this one:
Ballistic Case for Samsung Galaxy S4 - Retail Packaging - Black
Bought the case on Amazon

I am happy with both the phone and the case. For making phone calls I use a cell flip phone. House phone [wire] sounds like static. That's another problem.

Android is Andriod. Samsungs have nice screens and good battery life. I'm looking at an s4 mini as it has the best run time with screen illuminated. So would play movies for many hours, and actually last a day as a gps unit on the handlebars.

I'm not interested in a phone that won't last a weekend without charging. Very few seem capable in the real world.

Nope!..not on a worldwide basis, Apple is down the list in terms of sales numbers behind Samsung and Huawei, with HTC ,Sony, and Nokia not far behind.
For Android in the US, Samsung and HTC would probably be the pick.

I am leaning towards S4, whats the ballistic case like, my friend has one seems kind of bulky.
As far as battery life goes, I think with the S4's you can get a 7500mAh battery however I do not know if you buy a bigger case for it.
Anker sells them.
I bought a few batteries for my Ace 2x, off ebay. I was not pleased. Its nice to buy from a company and not used crap off ebay selling as new.
Hyperion(sp) too I believe sells some extended life batteries.

There are a wide variety of 18650-based "power banks" to extend your smart-phones run time. You can have one cell, two cell, and even one with a very bright flashlight built in. search "18650 cree power bank"

I am talking about a extended battery that goes in place of your regular battery.
I think they come with a back cover that fits the bigger battery.
The S4's are free now on a 2 year plan, Virgin Mobile.
Seems like all the S4 were launched in March/May of 2013.
So that means its been about 2 years. So I have to wait 2 years to get the new S5 for free.

The other tradeoff is of course an increase in charge time. Samsung is in a better position here thanks to the availability of 2 Amp (10 watt) charging using their supplied charger which includes proprietary 1.2V signaling on D+/D- pins. Unsurprisingly charge time goes up as well with the ZeroLemon, and even with that Samsung 2 Amp charger, it takes 7.5 hours to charge the ZeroLemon battery from completely empty. With this much charge time, it’s clear to me that without increased charging current this is effectively the maximum practical battery size for the SGS4, given the expectation that you can plug your phone in dead when you go to sleep and wake up with it fully charged (and sleep 8 hours a night). If you use the wrong charger (USB BC 1.2 compliant), a full charge could take just over 12 hours given this same scaling.

If you’re willing to make the size and weight tradeoff and want an absolutely huge extended battery for the SGS4, the ZeroLemon 7500 mAh battery seems like a pretty good choice.

It would be good to go ahead and buy two of those 7.5Ah batteries, with a plug in style charger.
Be rocking out in style, I wonder how it feels "in hand"

Ballistic Case is rubber. Protects the phone and allows use of the buttons. Not any more bulky then it needs to be. No clear plastic covering the screen. Could test it by dropping the phone but I try not to do that. No complaints about the case.

Top 5 phone Android makers: Samsung, Motorola, LG, Sony and maybe Huawei. But that is not a list of the best android phones. Google Nexus is a top notch device and so is the OnePlus One

About durability, Samsung does some pretty amazing testing with their phones. http://www.droid-life.com/2012/11/2...ungs-multi-stage-device-stress-test-facility/

As for sites about phones, xda-developers.com has A LOT of info, but it is mixed with a lot of junk too. I like AndroidPolice and Androidcentral

I'm a little bit of an Android nut, having only Androids since the T-mobile G1 launched. I currently use a Galaxy Note 4 that rocks!! It's like a badass computer in my pocket and has so many features. To name a few: Amazing 5.7" Quad HD screen (518ppi; S Amoled) , S Pen, OIS camera, 4K recording, 3GB ram, removable SD storage and battery, MHL, USB OTG, Infrared blaster, fingerprint scanner, NFC.

Before buying the s5, I checked when the s6 would be out. It was 3 hours later lol
This took the price of the s5 from 235 to 209 overnight, but it's been a couple of days now. Everyone should know. The s5 should be a reasonable price now. Though the full drop will come when the s6 moves from pre-order to in-hand

The s6 is different enough to see the older versions drop quite a bit in price. They were all about the same, so older versions were worth little less than newer ones. Now the s6 is actually different, a wider gap will open up.
