Is it possible to add throttle to my EcoBike?

Hello, I recently got myself an e-bicycle from EcoBike named Trafik 28" 16 Ah what has only pedal assist with 3 modes and 6km/h walkmode with thumb throttle by default, specs can be seen on their offical site:
https://eco-bike.ie/wp/product/ecobike-trafik-grey-28/

After using it two weeks I started wondering if its possible to convert the walkmode into a normal throttle, because it has waterproof 3 pin connector already at the right place. :D

Soldering would not be an issue, because I do it daily at work, but my knowledge about electronics is really basic and minimum so I really need some guidance. :oops:

Here is the controller, I did not find any useful info about it:

Pcb board, in the shrink tube is a tiny pcb board, but i did not want to remove it for now unless someone wants to see it :D :

There is two rows of unused holes in the board:

And last the bottom view:

All help is welcome :D

I've been doing some research lately on e-bikes and I was just curious, is it possible to add hand throttle to a pedal assisted e-bike? If so, how?

The term, pedal assist, basically means that the motor will only engage or help you when you're pedaling. So, there are basically two types of motors that exist, or one motor can do both. So, pedal assist means that, as I said, the motor will only engage when you are pedaling.

The motor will run both. It is the controller that reads signals and manage motor speed/power. Most ebike controller boards have both a throttle and a PAS circuit, only the wires are not always installed on them both. Open the controller to see if it has the pins for a throttle (often identified by Tl,Tn,Ts). If not it is simple and cheap to just replace the controller with one that has a throttle circuit.

Thanks for the advice, I'll test this out :D

The label on the controller is one clue, as it lists the throttle voltage, so the circuit board has the function, and maybe there is an unused connector for it.

You mentioned an unused connector on the handlebars. Take a voltmeter and probe the pins. Once you locate ground, the other two signals will look like this.
Power ----------> 4.5V
Signal --------- -> 0V, when a real throttle is attached, this will be 1.4V,.
Ground ---------> 0V

That connector could also be for lights....

Here's a trick to use to test the throttle on a connector I know is the throttle. I put a diode between power and signal, making sure the motor is free to turn. This will spin the wheel to full speed if I've identified the thrittle pins correctly. It actually replicates a throttle fault when the ground wire breaks, and has happened to me a few times on different ebikes.

Hey docw, thats what I thought too when I saw the label.
There isnt unused connector at the handlebar, its the 5km/h mode thumb throttle connector. What I originally planned was to rewire thouse walkmode throttle wires, but now I ordered a twist throttle and wanna keep the walkmode :D
For the diode will 1N4001 or something like that do the trick?
