Is There A GOOD Version of the Golden Motor UI?

I had decided to switch to Bluetooth and the GM UI app for my Magic Pie conversion, because the LCD display, aside from being inaccurate about trip lengths, has lately been refusing to turn the internal backlight on, and that bothers me because I do ride at night. So I got everything hooked up, only to find that:

* This version of the app, named "Lingbo", only reads speed and distance in kilometers.

* It is difficult to get it linked with the bike, and difficult to keep it active. It seems to be interfered with by other, nearby Bluetooth units.

So...

Is this the only version of the app? Or is there one with miles per hour and miles traveled? Or, gods forbid, a choice? The one in the video on YouTube seems to be named "GM" instead of Lingbo.

If he's still around, you could check with GoldenMotor Canada and see if he has a different version that works with your model/version of controller.

I haven't looked for a different app version, google doesn't like my searches ATM (keeps telling me I'm a bot and making me click the box that I'm human, but then comes back to that page again).

For the BT interference, it's been my experience that devices with BT antennas too well shielded from the outside may not connect well. Where is the actual BT device for this controller? Can it be relocated?

If it can't be relocated, and / or it is not an interference problem, then if they are using a separate BT to serial dongle, you might be able to get a better one (stronger transceiver) and swap it out--it *should* just have to support the right type of serial connection / voltage (3.3v or 5v, etc), and supply voltage, but if their app is looking for some custom BT transmitter data or sending something that must be decoded by custom BT hardware, their dongle won't be replaceable.

Google decided I'm human again, so this link is for an Android apk file
https://goldenmotor.bike/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/MagicPie-UI1.9.apk_.zip
and this is an IOS applestore link
https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/golden-motor-bike/id1168040345
both from this page
https://goldenmotor.bike/downloads/

This is the acual GM page you've probably already checked
https://goldenmotor.com/apps/
https://www.goldenmotor.com/apps/MagicPie-UI1.9.apk
(and if you manually change the version number from 1.9 to other numbers (1.8, etc), there are other APK file versions still available there that aren't listed; I don't know of a way to force it to show you all the files that are there as it doesn't support FTP which would show a file list)
https://apps.apple.com/cn/app/magicpie-ui/id1446228526

Hopefully one of them helps; I can't test any of these myself, though.

I think I have the latest version of the app, but I'll have to confirm that. Good news: someone at the GM forum told me how to make the app read in miles/MPH, although the displayed units remain km and KPH. That alone helps a lot.
