IZip Via Rapido Battery Range

Hey guys I'm new to the forum. I've got an IZip Via Rapido bike with a 24v 10AH system. The range is very limited since I live in a very hilly neighborhood. What are my options if any to upgrade either the battery and or the system to gain more range. I'm fine with the power but if more can be gotten at the same time that would be a nice bonus. First and easy option is to get another battery. either a new from the same company, or probably cheaper for less money would be something like a Ping battery pack.

That will jsut give more range by havine a bigger capacity battery which you would need to mount somewhere..low down best..rear carrier is always a bad idea for handling


If you wanted to increase performance..well you may be able to increase the voltage a bit..all depends on the controller and waht the internal components are. they maybe able to handle higher voltage..maybe not..two ways to tell..no..maybe three ways.

Ask someone that has done it before..Pedelecs Uk foum maybe better for that sort of bike
Open the controller and check the components, post pictures here with what the components are..FETS etc ratings on the capacitors etc.
If you can afford it..stick in 36 volts (or more) and see what happens..if it works it works and maybe you will go faster..if it does not work you may see smoke coming out the controller and you will need a new one

first of all welcome!!

it really depends on your budget & what your looking for

If your not happy with the range, but happy with the speed, buy a new battery's eighter lipo or lifepo4

4 of those will give you 28v x 16ah, you'd also need to buy a charger, plus get a wire harness from "icecube57"

or you could get a quote from "cellman" for a an equivalant lifepo4 battery, more $$$ but better longevity.

if you want top go faster, you'll need a more powerfull controler, say a 36v/48v controller, if your comfortable with electronics/soldering, it's a no brainer really a decent one can be picked up for under $100, talk to "lyen", but i'd check with the community first, to make sure your hub motor is capable, it should be, but no promises.

you'll need a new battery, again look at option one but your gonna need 36 or 48v 16ah


the most exspensive, but best, would be to buy a complete kit, say a magic pie 3 from bmsbattery, then simply add a battery from elsewhere, wouldn't recomend buying a battery there better can be had, for the same price.

whatever you do, i'd recomend reading alot b4 you take the plunge, i made a few mistakes along the way that cost me A few hundred dollars, i'm by no means the most experienced, but i've got a few months experience, that i wouldn't mind sharing, hit me up with pm's, ill point you in the right direction.

If you aren't happy with the speed and power of the bike, just get rid of it and build your own using a hub motor kit. But, if you are happy with it's performance and just want/need more range then just leave the original stuff alone and add a 24V battery pack in the open triangle space. Your original battery is ~240wh. You can easily get another 24V pack in the triangle close to 1000wh. Use the new battery as the main power and keep the little one on the back for backup.
