I got back from a week and a half on the road yesterday so it's now time for the oblig. photo-whore thread. If interested in reading my half-coherent rambles on Japan then you can do so here: http://toshiclark.xanga.com/ . If you want to navigate the galleries yourself and see all the junk that made it past my first round of editing then head over to http://toshiclark.com/ . Otherwise stay tuned for some photos with brief captions below:

Engrish! "Hair make" means they do hair styling and makeup. I have no idea why Crazy Fruit is a Sexy Pub, on the other hand.

Bike related!

Groping on the morning commute is a problem. This is one solution.

Who says contractors need to drive a F-250 to get their ladders around?!

Finally, my grandparents (86-year-old grandmother on left, 93-year-old grandfather on right) and yours truly with the wife:

Did I say "finally?" I meant to say that after Japan I headed to San Diego for a conference. A few highlights from walking about the Gaslight district, Balboa Park, and the overpriced but nice Zoo:

Grant Hotel, San Diego.

IMG_6939.jpg

Orchids at Balboa Park Botanical Pavillion, San Diego.

Zoo animals:

Somehow it seems appropriate to end with this saucy camel:

A few more transportation-related photos:

Honda Super Cubs ready for delivering large objects.

IMG_6664.jpg

IMG_6663.jpg

3-wheeled Honda Gyro Canopy, a regular sight. Note the full windshield, roof, and WINDSHIELD WIPER. The last is key.

Finally, a word of advice:

Awesome pics, I am guessing you took them with DSLR? shallow DOF give them away.

I really want to visit japan, I might be able to through work in my new job, I'll certainly be taking my camera if I do!!

:)

Thanks! Yes, dSLR indeed: 5D Mk II with some nice glass (the nicest of which is the 135/2L surely).

Great pics Toshi! I shoot with a 5D mark II at work, and I love it. It's just fit with the semi-crap kit lens that comes with it though.

Your grandparents look in great shape for their ages! Your grandpa still has a full head of hair at 93 years old! Japanesse is an excellent race.

5D mkII = 2.5K... body only

It's a bargin for the camera performance.

We had over 100k left in the annual "misc tools" budget at work, so we had to come up with some stuff that cost $$$. :)

Hey man, things are tough all over!!

Nice pics Toshi. Japan has always been someplace I wanted to see. Don't know if I'm going to make it though so pictures like these are wonderful!
