This "JS Electric Bicycle" came up for sale for $150, I couldn't say no. It isn't a brompton, but it'll do. The little 250w motor has no torque, but it is just about right for my sub-100 lb wife, and I like the dedicated slide-out carrier for the batteries.
I suspect this originally had a pair of SLAs in the battery case but the PO said it had new batteries, described F cells, mentioned 'about 20 of them', and it came with a Nimh charger. I haven't cracked the battery case yet, but if it has 20 newish nimh f cells then the bike was almost free.
I'd like to drop in a more powerful motor+controller, and the battery case looks like it has room for another 24-48v of nimh, giving it enough punch to pull my wife up hills and maybe do occasional duty as a 'pit bike' for me.
Anyone seen this brand of cheapcycle before? Anyone been down the upgrade path on something like this?

PS yep that orange blob in the motor pic is our e-cat, checking out the new toy.
