A few months ago I recieved my new controller and redesigned my bike and wiring for 72 volts use. The performance is extremely good, the bike uses far less power at cruising speeds now,in fact I've so far found it hard to wear the battery pack down enough to really test my 72v charger. Yesterday I drove the bike around town as much and as far as I could and only used up 2 volts from the battery pack,my range is going to be far more than at my previous 48 volts setup.
For some reason the motor runs much smoother and seems to "coast" more freely.
Power is impressive,I have all the speed I need now to stay in traffic, and not having raging drivers yelling and trying to force me off the road. The bike accelerates fast,I can beat cars off from the stoplight. I do keep my eye on the speedo and try not to exceed the supposed regulated speed limit for e-bikes here.
I'm also testing a new 72v -12v (10a output) DC converter for my lights and accesories and it's working well so far.
My previous 48v-35a box was a pretty old design to be fair, but I keep it as an emergency replacement should my new box die,I have an alternate power wire on the bike for 48v in case I need to use the old box.

Nice at 72 eh? Bear in mind that one amp of 72v is more watts than one amp of 48v. So you have to use more watts to drain the battery voltage down a volt. I keep having the same brain fart on my 72v bike. I look at the CA in ah, and think WOW I didn't use much. Then looking at wh, I see yes it was. Just so used to thinking in 36 or 48v from the commuter bike.

But I think my CycleAnalyst doesn't like the high voltage(Almost 90v when charging),it's acting like it's gonna die now,the screen fades out and displays strange little square symbols sometimes now....

I originally ordered a 40A Infineon controller, but none of the connectors matched the Crystalyte and I didn't want to change everything. Also the Infineon had 30A connectors- 30a connectors on a 40a box?? I sent it back.

sounds like a good setup, ive noticed in the last 10 yrs in vancouver the traffic is at a all time cluster;''''''. i kinda miss my few yrs ago 72v setup,it is deceiving but you will get used to the watt drain.

Anyway to get some pics of the inside? I have a mystery controller here that I want to know if it the same with lower voltage caps. Thanks

My new Crystalyte controller has it's name clearly embossed on the outside and is marked 72v-50A.

I made sure all my wiring was well constructed to handle 50 amps,I used 10 gauge wire and made sure connectors were crimped and soldered very well. Found a good 60a car fuse for the system.(50a motor plus 10a-12v output for lights and acc.)
I'm using 6 12v-10ah SLA batteries,cheap and reliable,I got 3 years from my last SLA's,this set with 720 watt-hours give good range.
Bike now has 4000 watts power output, over 5 HP,I'm finally satisfied with power, speed and range.I have to use caution to not spin the front tire when hitting the throttle full at slower speeds.
