As a Mazda owner, this news is pretty exciting! The MAZDA EZ-6 has advanced features like Level 2.5 autonomous driving, a 7nm Qualcomm SA8155P chip, and sophisticated parking technology. Would love to see how it turns out tho. More and more brands stepping into the EV game!

When are we going to see EVs whose advanced features include a go pedal, a stop pedal, a steering wheel, and cranky windows? One whose sophisticated parking technology is parked in the driver's chair? That's the only kind of four wheeler that interests me.

I have a fone that works just fine as a fone/pocket computer, but I have to replace it every couple years because it develops problems. I don't need or want a vehicle that tries to be a fone. Consumeriffic dingdongs seem to differ with me on this. Apparently most of them want a vehicle that goes "ping".

I doubt it's possible to confuse me for a "consumeriffic dingdong" even when at my worst, but personally, I want a vehicle autonomous enough to not require passengers to be licensed by a State DMV, while being built by a manufacturer who's comfortable letting me accept the responsibility if the self-driving car drives itself into a pedestrian.

I love software, but it isn't ever going to be good at paying insurance premiums or facing the music in a court.

Interesting report….?
Much word salad about advanced electronics, auto driving, clever parking (???) etc, yada , yada, …
but sweet FA about anything regarding drive train, battery capacity, or chemistry, range, not even the number of doors !
..Is this the level that auto journalists have sunk to now ?

I like technology as much as the next guy, but wonder if these conpanies have the right approach. Too many nonessential features that only serve as additional points if failure. I can't imagine all these computerized gizmos lasting 10-15 years any more than I can imagine them being inexpensive to replace. Even the batteries of EVs are engineered to cost the consumer 5-figure repair bills should something go wrong with their janky house-of-cards assemblies. I ride my ebike for most commutes but do need a car for the odd family outing. It has a clutch, a gas pedal, a brake pedal and crank windows. There is nothing I can't easily fix myself. Until the manufacturers get serious about repairability over bells and whistles, it will stay that way.

Repairability is the enemy of overconsumption. If any one of the major corporate players breaks ranks to appease a wiser breed of buyers, they will all lose profits. So I don't expect increased repairability until it's forced on them one way or another, either by regulation or the widespread impoverishment of their market.

Sadly, even ebikes have gone off the rails in this manner lately.
Commercial ebike manufacturers seem to have dropped any thought of common component interchangeability…other than possibly tyres !…with customised frame mounts for integrated motors, battery configuration. And voltage, seat posts, wheel sizes, etc.
Then there is the complication of electrical system error codes and programming for the mirriad of different control systems.
…..and lets not mention the cost of these overthought bikes !😱

Absolutely. I recently got Bosch dealer training, and it contained zero mechanical content. It was half tutorial on the subtleties of the product line, and the other half was learning about interacting with the app. Everything about that system is a trap to extract money from buyers in return for as little as possible.

They think about it all right, they think about how to prevent it. I've seen certain companies use a ten pin harness instead of 9 just to be extra incompatible, they don't even use the extra pin. Bigger profits if you force people to buy parts through you after the bike itself.
