Hi!

Ever since I found out about mid-drive kits for bikes I've been wanting to build my own. I don't like the looks of the hubmotors.
I have a Kona Hoss 2006, with front suspension, no backsuspension (check picture).

I think this is a good bike to do my build with?
I use it for commuting to my work, which is 5km each way, 10km both ways.

I want a kit that provides good acceleration and speed (without pedaling).
Is the GNG 450W belt drive anything good for me?

What speed can i reach with this? The bike has "Rear Cogs 9-speed, 11 - 32 teeth" if that matters?

What type of battery do you suggest? Is this any good? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/48V-10ah-water-bottle-type-lithium-Li-ion-electric-bike-battery-/130956167998
I'm completely new to this, but from what I understand you can use a 72V battery to get more out of the setup.
Please help me out, I've been reading for days and it is too much information to understand everything.

One other thing I'm wondering about is I heard some people don't like the belt drive on the GNG. Is there any good solution that minimizes the wear to the belt and provides better reliability?

Thank you very much!

Okey, your bike looks pretty amazing! It looks like it would be more expensive to buy 2 new wheels with hubs and another thing, I feel like I would like all the power at the backwheel to do wheelies and jumping off things.
I have not researched hub wheels that much. But how fast does your bike go with that setup, and what did you pay for everything (except the batteries)? And where did you buy everything?

Thank you!

JoQ,

Sorry if i misled you. I am also a noob here. I am just now building my first E-bike. I ordered a battery 2 days ago, it should arrive in 24-48 hrs (48v 20ah A123). I will let you know how it runs in a few days.
I bought all my bike parts here in China. i have about 1,800 USD in it already.

I was also thinking about a mid drive at first. Then i read many posts and decided I was not ready. I think If i go with a mid drive it wont be a cheap GNG. Those GNGtype kits here are about 120USD.

Hey! How did you get your bike to stand up like that for the pic? I am looking for a kickstand now...so i notice these things.
