I spent the weekend in Montreal and had a blast renting the BIXI bikes. Montreal has bicycle kiosks throughout the city and renting is as easy as swiping your credit card. For only a few bucks, you can rent a bike, see the sights and drop it off at any Bixi kiosk. While the bikes are not electric, it is a great way to encourage city folks to leave the car behind and put their legs to work. Two questions for Canadians: Seems like Montreal bikers wear neither helmets nor light their bikes. WHY? I love my bike but prefer the protection of a bike helmet and front/ rear lights.

Nevertheless, you're welcome up here. Might wake up your mind.

I didn't expect you to take it to the letter.

Montreal is the city of freedom. Ride like you want, Bixi has front and tail lights, and you can buy a helmet for 5$ since no one wears them.

Montreal is an incredible city. Had a blast, the BIXI bikes were almost as much fun as the danseurs nus. Yes, I sampled both. It's a very bike friendly city but rather surprised how fast the (non bixi) bikers travel and most without lights and helmets. Mad, let's meet sometime? I'll show you mine, you show me yours--ebike that is.
