I recently built a board with these specs:

Hobbywing 150a ESC

Turnigy SK3 270KV 50mm

6s 5000mah lipo

Anywho, whenever I try to accelerate from a standstill, the motor stutters and refuses to go. But once the board is going the motor kicks in and there is no problems.

Also, when I was going up a steepish hill, the motor sparked and then hit the brakes. Now whenever I turn on the motor, it will go, but it seems as though the brakes are always resisting it, even when I'm going forward. ???

Hi always kick start.. unless your motor is sensored your esc needs to know in what position your motor is.. it does this through the back Emf.. hence if it has no back Emf at standstill then it coggs.. also it looks lame...so kick start, look cool and you wont cog... 8)

The spark is not a good thing generally, might want to check if your controler trim has been activated... happens often when i fall of the board...

welcome to the club.. post some pics of your board :D

You can also try increasing your gearing ratio which should help. Dual motor always performs a lot better from stand still also a tighter belt helps also and more throttle.

I'm able to start from a stand still on flat ground with dual motors unsensored. They don't start on any inclines and/or uneven terrain a kick definitely helps.

Checkout Vedder's ESC's they work great from a standstill unsensored. He hasn't yet produced them but hopefully soon.
