I have some problem with the controller and the motor after driving a short distance the motor suddenly stop and the wheel become very difficult to turn,
at home I testing the controller on another motor by putting the current on the motor also became very hard to turn then I disconnect the controller and the engine it turned freely but the other motor is very hard at running even without controller connect if someone has solutions for my problem
thank you for help. sorry for my english

can you turn the wheel without resistance if you disconnect the phase wires? did anything happen when it went bad? the motor did not fall out of the dropouts or twist around inside them?

what brand of motor and controller and what voltage? could you have burned up the controller by excessive voltage or current?

do both wheels have the same resistance to turning when the phase wires are disconnected?

add your location to your profile in case someone else lives close by and can help you in person.

Sounds like you may have spun the axle, and cut wires where they come out of the motor. The short can ruin a controller.

the kit I buy at (http://www.raybenmotors.com-a.googlepages.com/product2) it 48 volt 500 W
I check the wires motor with a howmmeter for short no problem there and I plug the controler on my other motor(is Wilderness 36v 600w) it became very hard to turn to immediatly cut the current. could be some thing burning in the controller for the motor remains very hard to turn someone have other idea tanks for help.

ok, that is what i needed to know. you have 2 and you have already opened one of the motors?

it is the rayben motor manufacturing which is bad. i am helping jim here who has 2 of these motors and both were very hard to turn, and one will not turn at all under power.

i think the problem is because the bearings do not seat all the way into the cover plate during assembly and that makes the bearings too tight to turn.

you should ask rayben to replace the motor immediately. he has refused to replace jim's motor because he says that jim was outside the warranty replacement window.

contact rayben immediately and request that they replace the motor. send him a registered letter explaining that the motor will not turn because of 'defective manufacturing causing a failure to operate in normal use'.

i haven't talked to ray at rayben motors yet, but i suspect i will have to contact him to get him to consider returning all the motors he imported from china with this problem.

i am gonna go pick up jim's motor which will not turn and see if i can beat on the side covers to force the bearings to seat properly in spite of the machining failure and see if the motor will turn after that.

rayben motors should not be selling these motors until they can fix this problem. it is not anything that you did, the motors are just not properly manufactured.

again contact rayben. i was under the impression they are in canada so if you live in canada, you may be able to recover your damages in court, but for people outside canada, i don't know what will happen since he is refusing to take back these motors of jim's which i can tell are not manufactured properly because of these bearing recess machining failures.

i will post up pictures of the motor i get from jim when i work on it. the other rayben motor he has was also hard to turn initially but he was able to ride it until the bearings wore in to the point it freed up and turned with just some resistancee. when i opened this motor, i could tell that one of the bearings had already worn to such an extent it wobbled, it has already worn out.

this is bad, people should not buy these motors. either the 350W 36V motor or the 48V motor, (both are the same motor), since they are all suspect. ray may be able to solve the problem but he should not be selling them, and you can direct him to this thread and to me if you wish so i can explain what the problem is to him. send me his phone number if you get it and i will call him or email him about the problem.

if there are others with this same problem with the rayben motor, then contact ray and let him know, and post up here so we know all the people who have this problem.

Hi dnmun the phone number is 778-999-9282 and the email is rayben.motors@gmail.com
if you can explain that problem better of my because my english is not verry good
tanks for your help.

send me an email at my rdnmun@gmail.com account. i need your correct name, address, date you purchased the hubmotor, and the invoice or purchase order number. i will get the same from jim and then contact ray to see if i can make the case of what he should do.

i was gonna go see if could get this super stiff motor from jim to rotate by hammering on the covers, i need to be careful about how i try to force the bearings to seat better, and i will take pictures in case it works and is a solution for others.

marcel emailed me, and here is a copy of my reply:

"i just got through whacking on the end plates to see if
i could get the bearings to seat and it made no difference. i got the
whell to slightly move when i reversed the phase wires and then again
later when i put them back straight, but the controller seems to be
super hot for no reason. i will take it back over to jim's and see if
his controller will make it turn. i'll post up this message on your
thread too. dm"

i am wondering if it is the controller, whacked it from the wire side first and put it on the fork and it spun more easily but with some cogging which it never had done before, but i then took it off and whacked from the other side and it was stiff again. it never would turn, but when i swapped the phase wires it showed a twitch, and then later when i had put the phase wires straight again it showed a twitch on throttle input. controller was super hot for no reason, sometimes i could hear the current humming in the hub faintly but not all the time. ear right on the wheel. will try it like this with the screws loose so the endplates are loose on jim's controller to see it runs on that one. his rebuilt motor ran fine when we tested it this morning, 2 bad hall sensors replaced on that one but the bearing was really worn in already on one side.
