I have a MZ Charly scooter, which is a full-sized, seated scooter as shown in the link. It was made by the German motorcycle company of the same name out of quality components. For those unfamiliar, it looks a bit like ET.
Looks like the controller box is history. Motor seems to work fine. Fuses check out okay. The #6 LED corresponds to a battery or controller box error and the batteries are new.
Having a tough time finding one. I've seen a few on German Ebay, but they aren't cheap and are 240v rather than the 110v I need. Even though MZ went bankrupt, another group took them over and I think they have the part for about $306 USD, plus $31 USD shipping to the UK (they don't ship to the USA), and I'd have to have a friend forward it to me, which I'm guessing is maybe $60. So roughly $400 USD all-in. That's a lot of money to put into an old scooter.
I know that other companies make controller boxes that are not OEM, but they require external chargers, rewiring, new throttle, new plugs and so on. I'd much rather have an OEM plug and play solution.
If anyone knows someone who has one of these boxes and would let it go cheap, let me know. I'd also be open to someone who can repair the controller box. So far, I haven't found anyone in the Southern California area. TIA.
