Just a new twist on the hunting season. I agree some of those damn lights just won't change for a motorcycle, but why expect the drivers to pay attention to the cyclist who is stopped at a red light? Today not one but TWO old guys on hawgs squeezed between me and the car I was passing. Only a fool. . .Well, TWO fools. I can picture these people when they just go through the read light.

I had one light on my route that was doing that to my ebike. For awhile I was riding over to the crosswalk button and pushing it. Then took to making a right turn followed by a U turn, since I needed a left turn. By the second year commuting I was just riding through the damn light if no cars were within a block.

Seems like the problem is the sensor to me. Only this one light gave me so much trouble. Program the light to turn green for nobody briefly each cycle of the sensor is too weak to detect a motorcycle. BTW, that problem sensor was able to detect my 150cc gas scooter.

Fix the problem, rather than make more confusing traffic laws.

As for lane splitting, what we call gridlock in this state is nothing so it should stay illegal here in NM. But I understand the need for it in other places.

I don't think it should be legal at higher speeds though. Splitting the lanes between cars that are crawling is one thing, but blowing by cars splitting the lane at 80 when the cars are doing 75 in a 65 freeway should be illegal. Well, the speed is already, but another citation should be added for that. Main point is, if the cars are moving the speed limit, you shouldn't need to split a lane on a motorcycle. It should be illegal to pass the cars too much faster than they are going, so the cars can see the bike if in time if the car wants to change lanes. The bike has time to see a turn signal as well.

I like the idea of letting them go through. The other day I saw a hawg that didn't trip the light so I went around the car in front of me, pulled alongside him in my e-moto and tripped it for him. Two years, 6000 miles, and only one intersection that couldn't detect my e-moto.

It's quite common for motorcycles to not trip the traffic light sensors.

In California, I believe the rule is, if the light goes through 2 full traffic light cycles without giving you an opportunity to go, you are free to run the red light if no traffic is currently present. Works out nicely.
