I have lost the drive sprocket off my elation v3 48 volt motor. The one with the shaft in the centre.
Lost- meaning I was standing on the pedals powering up a hill when I noticed a loss in power. I looked down to find the drive sprocket was missing. All five bolts have been sheared off.
I need to know how big it is and how many teeth does it have and would anyone know where to get one, now that Allan has closed shop.

Hi Rusty,

I have v3 mk2, I will try to get to it and see how many teeth, I dont think actual size matters.
May take me a couple of days though. :)

Hi Rusty head , hope this helps, about 45mm diameter. 10 teeth.

Cheers. :)

Most excellent Lesspedal, thanks heaps.

I dont suppose you'd know where I can get one from ? I'm in Brisbane,I guess there is always the net.

I'll take your guess at the lotto number for Saturday as well while your at it,lol.

I'll check back to see if you have any ideas.

Sorry Rusty but I have no idea where to source one, I suspect they may have been purpose made for Elation.
Maybe using the pic and measurements (maybe make a template) you may be able to get one made somewhere. :)
P:S I also checked diameter, it is exactly 45mm.

Once again thanks ,
I will get one made , duh, I have access to a lathe and a milling machine (well my dad has the gear and likes doing this kind of stuff)
Thanks for the obvious solution.
I'm still waiting for the lost mail from Elation- 3 weeks and counting, I don't know who to blame, E-lation for not sending the promised sprocket, Aust Post for possibly losing the allegedly sent mail or myself for buying an Elation kit to start with !
Ehhh... I'll do the yobbo way and blame someone else, lol.
Thanks Lesspedal.

I could be wrong but wasn't it e-lation that just shut up shop in a big hurry due to some personal reasons? There was a post about it here on the sphere not long ago

Kurt

Yes Kurt spot on.

I actually Emailed Allan D @ elation 3 weeks ago about the sprocket shearing off. He advised no problem and assured me 2 sprockets are in the post.
They havent turned up and Allan has killed his Email adress, phones etc...but somehow I feel he is monitoring the web and forums like this to see who is saying what.
So yes Kurt, no Allan D = no Elation = no sprocket = no spares or parts list = angry let down customers = class action for customers with warranty claims.
So unless some helpful person can tell me where to get a drive sprocket for the v3 ,i'll have a go at making one thanks to Lesspedal ,I'll use stronger bolts than the old ones.
Rusty bullethole peddlehead .

G'Day Rusty

I answered one of your other posts but now realize it was in vain. The pic above shows you have a "v4" elation motor (heh, my definition as he completely changed the motor / gear-box design). My answers there were for the original v3.

It really p....s me off even more now, now I see even the output sprocket design was changed.

But hey, what was he thinking to go from a press fit sprocket (bad shaft stresses from repairs/poor handling; ie mine snapped after first repair) to a BOLT-ON sprocket? What was needed was a thicker output shaft and a KEY slot. Similar are available on the net but I never saw any for such narrow shafts... have even seen some ALSO with screw lock; AND including free wheeling.

The only good thing this nong has "invented" (heh) was the aesthetics of the mounting ring, but all round the engineering he commissioned has been daft every try (and to find mine has been missing a complete load sharing shaft AND gears really takes the cake).

"...killed his Email address..."
Anyhoo as long as the eLation hosting account and domain rego for the web site lasts he will still have access to all emails. Additionally you might try his Telstra address allan_dow@bigpond.com if not already.

So, if your dad can indeed do some of this stuff like recreate gears etc then let us all know; could be a few bob in it for him if he's interested... all private no guarantees etc OR as business.

Regards.
