Need help identifying Bafang motor & getting technical data sheet

Can anyone help identifying the Bafang rear hub motor described below? I'll attach pictures if possible.

I recently bought 4 of these (not knowing if they worked). I'm fairly technical & I played around with 1 & got it to spin a little but did not have it connected to a controller.

The markings on the motor are:

-------------------------------------------------------------------
RM G020.250.R10 (I assume the model number)
007F3S3230115 (I assume the serial number)

Bafang 26"/700C/28"
DC 36V
BLDC FOR E-BIKE A2
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I'm looking for any technical documents & configurations showing compatible controllers, battery pack, displays, etc.
I've not had any luck communicating with Bafang.

I did see a reference to a SWX02 (RM G020.250.DC). Is the SWX02 the generic model number. Mine is silver & the SWX02
I saw a picture of was black. It also had the wiring harness going straight out from the motor/axis whereas mine drops
downward at 90 degrees.

Thanks,

Mike

I should have added it has the 9 pin Bafang connector. I bought the extension cable you see in the picture
so I could more easily connect to the pins. There are 3 large phase pins & 6 smaller ones of which some are the
Hall effect sensors. I'd like to have the pin out description as well if anyone has that.

Thanks,

Mike

From your pics and description it looks like a Bafang 250w motor with straight forward wiring. However to be sure, could you show us a picture of the end of the wiring harness so we can make sure what wires you have? Sounds like three phase wires, 5 hall wires and one temperature sensor wire but a picture is worth a thousand guesses.

Thanks ebeach. That definitely looks close to the ones I have. Maybe just a newer revision level.
I think I posted my 2nd reply regarding the pin description as you were typing your reply. Below are the pictures.
In one picture the pin at 3 o'clock doesn't show up too well but it is there.

The link you provided showed a few things of interest. Supposedly the rated voltages are 36V up to 43V. I'd
thinking I want to run mine at 48V but would attempt to keep the current around 10A thus 480 watts. Would that be too
much for this motor? I'd obviously get a controller that would handle that. The rated wattage said up to 300W I believe.

The link also mentioned the brand name as "8FUN". Is that a Bafang model # I should be searching for to get the
technical information I'm looking for.

Any other information anyone can provide would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Thanks for the look at the pins, but what I was thinking about was the bare wires. Although it still looks like a standard setup.
Could you show us the wire end of the cable?

I'll send it later today. As I mentioned I just bought that extension cable to debug with as it's easier access to the pins. It's got 3 phase wires & 6 smaller ones. At this point I'm not thinking of using that but it depends on what controller I end up buying. Hopefully I buy a controller with the feature set I want & the female version of that 9pin Bafang connector and then just plug it in.

If anyone knows of a good 48V 15/20A controller with that female pinout & a good feature set please let me know. I'm looking at
using a 48V 20Ah battery pack. I'm not as focused on costs as I am good quality & compatibility even though cost is always taken
into account.

I'm an electrical engineer & semi-retired, so a friend had these motors, I enjoy biking, I have 2 older unused bikes so I said I'll buy those & play around with them. I've always had an interest in electric vehicles even though I never dealt directly with them. I worked at Motorola Semiconductor for years among other technology companies so I'm fairly familiar with the underlying technologies. I'm looking forward to learning the in's & out's of building ebikes & possibly e-motorcycles.

Thanks,

Mike

Your motor could probably handle 480w for short periods of time. Just don't overheat the motor and burn it out. 48v at 20a will push that motor hard.

As for the 6 other wires, that is what we are trying to identify. 5 of them are your hall wires, (Honeywell SS41 Hall Sensor and similar.) 2 of the hall sensor wires are the 5v input and the ground. Three more are the connected to the latched open / close returns from the halls. Then there is the other wire. What I would do is open the motor side cover on the side where the cable exits the motor and see if you can get a good look at where the wires connect to have absolute serenity of what is going on. Use your DMM to trace the pins.

Edit: I am beggining to think your motors are gear hub motors.

Thanks ebeach. I'm not planning on running it at 48V/20A. As I mentioned earlier I'd probably keep it at 48V/10 ampish range. I do want to go ahead and get a 48/52V 20Ah battery for the range as well as if I do a different ebike in the future my power source could handle it.

I agree the link looks very similar to what I have. I'm hoping someone can tell me from the "RM G020.250R 10" designation exactly what I have. If I can get the technical specs as well as any recommended/compatible controllers/battery packs then I'd be on my way. I do have some mechanical restrictions with my old non-used bikes but I can probably handle that.

I'll send the photo later.

Thanks,

Mike

I should have added that while I said I'd like to keep it at a 48V/10 Ampish range that's not really the case. That would probably
be my max for relatively short periods of time. That would not be the continuous current. But even if I did run it at a constant 480 watts I'm thinking the weak link is the "geared hub", not the windings.

If that happens so be it. I've got 3 more motors to learn from.

Thanks,

Mike

ebeach, I forgot to take the cable picture & am not out-of-town till Sunday. I'll post it when I get back.
