The makita charger refuses to charge 1830 the battery, I suspect a dying cell. Any suggestions on how i can fix it of try rebalancing the cells inside. I do not have a LI-ion balancer but have a Lipo balancer.

Any thought, advice.?

Andrew :)

AFAIK all lipo balance chargers also have a LiIo setting. Even the cheapest ones like the imax B6. You just have to bypass the bms if the pack has one and hook up balance leads. Or if the balance leads to the bms have a plug, just use it. Most also can do a single cell charge if you want to do that.

i have two lipo chargers and they do lipo, pb, NiMH, Nicd, and LiFe but not Li-lo. :(

I have seen a tube clip where a charger (presumably li-ion) is just connect to the batterry terminals and charged to 20v on an 18v as the the makita charger will not charge the pack. Is this a bad idea.

If you have a lipo charger, select 1S and then charge the low cell until in reaches ~3V. Then try the pack charger. If the low cell won't come up, then replace it and any other that is bad. What balance chargers do you have that do not have a LiIo charge setting. I've never heard of such a charger. Set nominal to 3.6V and see if it doesn't change to LiIo.

Sorry, I thought you wanted to fix the pack to work with the stock charger.

I have now gone thru 40 packs from DOC. All done with a 206b ICHARGER on LiPo. The cells are spec from 4.2 to 3.0v so your LiPo charger will work fine.

first 20 packs I got about 150 good cells, some tested to full capacity. Second 20 packs I found 2 GOOD packs with little signs of wear, all shinny and new. Some cells were dead or all low and took a full charge and full capacity. Some charged full but lost voltage sitting. It was only one of the two that were bad. So even if you do charge them up they might just die again.

If you are just going to fix it and charge it with a external charger not the factory one, you might contact Doc for a looser pack that he would recycle. it might not be worth the hassle or not.

Thanks fir the the replies. I have a turnigy and hoggyking x4 6s chargers, i promise they do not have li-ion settings though as said i can use the lipo setting on low, which is what i was hoping to hear.

I will have to find the correct size torque/star screwdriver size to take apart the chager body. Anyone know the size, is it size 10? Obviously i want to be able to put it back together again for use woth a drill.

it is a security 10.

thanks again everyone for the instructions. I will accept the fact that its probably on its way to battery heaven... I di have another new 1830 3ah battery. Is there a way of jumping power between the two identical batteries? :? or is that a recipe for two wasted batteries?
