Oh no, there's no $500 avails. Either they pay more, or it's a Per Inquiry. If they're unable to sell spots at their price, networks and local stations put up the PI's such as magazine subscriptions or anything with an 800 number. If they call from your avail, you get a check. Usually for less than you'd have expected to sell the avail, but enough to make it worth it or you stop running that particular PI.

There was the one charity for veterans that got itself a new director and the percentage spent on veterans went from over 90% to under 60%. If you get a call raising money for a charity it will usually be a 3rd party organization that's keeping pretty much everything. Nothing usual about the charity getting under 10%.

There is this one charity that grinds hard downtown they want to save children too, and they pay these up beat, talkative people that get paid $12/hour.
I know for a fact there is a website that shows which charities have what over head, what % of your dollar goes to the children, whales, seals, tree's, victims.

You're saying there are bad, inefficient charities. Are these the charities you choose to give your money to? Of course not! You will choose good charities that are both effective and thrifty. The fact that you can choose which charity to donate to is exactly what keeps them in line and keeps them honest. The good ones get stronger and the bad ones wither and die.

Government programs are all corrupt and inefficient. But in the case of things like FEMA, you have no choice where to spend your money. They know this, so they have no incentive not to be wasteful. You just demonstrated why a free market in all things is so important.
