NiCad Charge and Motor Wires?

Managed to drop a 36v 8ah Nicad pack and smash the fuse holder to bits, and noticed some un-soldered wires and something strange.... or maybe not..

Is this normal ?

Notice the charge port wires go directly from the Cell tab to the charger.. + - and Thermistor.

The motor leads however,the + wire goes thru the fuse, That white thermal breaker thing.. and then to the cell tab... is this white thermadignywhatnot supposed to be on the charge wire ?

It makes sense if the termal breaker is protection against overheating on discharge.

I don't understand why the fuse isn't located in the middle of the pack though, that way it will provide some protection against an internal short.

I have the 24V 8Ah Nicd packs,
On mine the 55 centigrade (NC) thermal cut out is on the charger red lead
before the bat tab. It is a low quality part that is prone to damage or sticking open I replaced mine with better. If the output leads short even for a split second (the old cut two wires at once) this thing blows open permanently,preventing you from recharging the pack
You must have been running very cool to stop this cutting off the pack on discharge or maybe its stuck closed.
Did you notice you can just unwrap the output wires (without resoldering) so they don't cross over the bat tabs + so aren't in the pack.
